1905FP On-Off Switch Problem

Dell does not recommend opening the monitor. If the on/off button is broken then contact Dell and have it replaced.

The on/off button on my 1905FP has broken, too, just recently (after about 10 months of use). It has pushed back inside the case (so that the face of the button is flush with the monitor molding), but so far still functions with a tactile and audible "click". Can I expect the button to continue to operate in this fashion or do you advise I seek a replacement now (before my warranty expires)? I'm worried whatever refurbished monitor I may receive will have issues of its own. Mine has otherwise performed flawlessly (no dead pixels or any other issues).

I've learned that I can avoid more wear & tear on my standby button by using "NirCmd.exe" and "Monitor OFF.js" to create a Desktop or Quick Launch shortcut that does the same thing (well, turning the monitor off, anyway. Don't think there'd be a way to turn it back on).

All I needed to make this work is the file "nircmd.exe" and "Monitor Off.js".

"NirCmd is a small command-line utility that allows you to do some useful tasks without displaying any user interface. By running NirCmd with simple command-line option, you can write and delete values and keys in the Registry, write values into INI file, dial to your internet account or connect to a VPN network, restart windows or shut down the computer, create shortcut to a file, change the created/modified date of a file, change your display settings, turn off your monitor, open the door of your CD-ROM drive, and more..."

The "Monitor OFF.js" file just executes the one feature of NirCmd that applies to us - putting the monitors in standby. I copied these two files to the root\WINDOWS folder and created a shortcut to the .js file in Media Center's "More Programs" and also on my Quick Launch bar.

Very easy, and works great. Extra features deserve to be explored as well.

The smae thing has happened to my 1905FP after only 10 months of use. Is this still covered under the warranty? Will I have to pay anything to get this monitor replaced??

I'd also like to note that I'm unable to find my receipt for this monitor. I bought it directly from Dell, so I should hope they have my purchase on file. Am I right, or am I out of luck?

It's covered. Just contact Support, give them you name, address, etc and they can look up your order number.
