2001 fp Green Vertical Band

Question

A green vertical band approximately 2 inches wide covers the right side of the screen of a 2001 fp monitor. I have used a DVI-D and  D-Sub cables and it appears on both (haven't rtied s-video or component). I have disconnected the monitor from the power source and held the power button down for 15 seconds as suggested in another post but it still comes back. If I turn off the monitor for a long period of time it goes away but returns after the monitor has been on for approx 1 hour.

* Turn off both your computer and the monitor
* Unplug the video cable (either the VGA or DVI) from the back of the computer. They should never be connected at the same time to one video card
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating dialog box should appear on-screen (against a black background)
* Let this dialog box float around the screen while looking for your issue. If the issue is present in this mode, the monitor is faulty. If the issue is not present in this mode, then look to the video card driver or the video card itself as the culprit

Thnaks for your response. Right now the band is not on the screen.Next time I will try your suggestion. FYI I only have one cable connected from the monitor to the cpu. I tried different cables to see if it was a cable issue.

I have the 5 green/pink verticle bands on my Dell 1800FP display. They are not present with the floating dialog box.  So what do I do about the driver or video card?

49er2008, Do you have another PC to try the monitor on? Have you removed and reinstalled the video card driver?

I don't have another PC. The monitor looks okay when it only shows the floating dialog box (with the cable disonnected), so I assume the monitor is okay.

How do I reinstall the video card driver? I can't find guidance anywhere.

When loading the downloaded Ati driver, the process ended with the following error message: "Set up did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system. Set up will now exit."

I am sure I indicated the correct OS and RAdeon series 9800 when downloading from ATI.

I had another go at this.  One of the Ati advanced settings is no longer available, but otherwise I got thru the process.  The 5 large bands are gone, but the screen is shaded with thousands of green and red pixels.  Please advise.

It sounds like you may have a faulty video card, do you get these symptoms in boot up screen before windows loads? If not it could still be a driver issue but if that were the case reloading the driver should have resolved it. You may want to follow these instructions from Chris : Simple video card driver reinstallation instructions, and reinstall the driver one more time to make sure.
