2001FP 20 inch FLAT panel

(this is garbage for the price its selling for)

my head is hurting from looking at this

i love my sony trinitron

i thought DELL would make a decent LCD it being 16ms advertised and all

i think im going to return this, im forced because my head hurts after 10 min

the colors are decent , but its kinda blurry and i have no idea how to fix this!!!

i think ill just buy a cheap 19 inch monitor or something

any feedback?

PS:

Oh ya, 1 more thing, DVI slot???!?!?! where does it go in the PC????

the white female on the vid card is differnt then the male plug for monitor

because at the moment im using the blue 15 pin hole.

i doubt that is reason though.... for hurting eyes

Always set your monitor ( LCD ) at the native resolution and for that monitor its1600x1200

The white connector on the monitor is for the DVI cable and should be connected to a video card with a white connector as well. Since you only have a blue ( Analog ) connector on your video card than you can never experience the digital clearity of DVI. Live with it or purchase a DVI video card that has both DVI and Analog.

You may want to check if you have the windows xp Clear Type set to ON for a clearer picture as well. Many have over looked this and they are supprised to see a big difference. I really don't think its the monitor but you just have not set the settings according to the monitor. Give it a try

Got mine in November and it was so amazingly bright i could barely keep my eyes on it. On the monitor you can turn down the brightness. I also found the native resolution extreamly small for my eyes. In XP i've found three options.

1.Play with the font size adjustments by right clicking on your desktop and from the Appearance tab select Advanced. Go thru the items and settings making everything larger.

2. You can also go to the Settings tab and change the dpi setting making everything larger.

3. Drop your resolution a step from the default.

I ended up dropping my resolution and customizing the font sizes.

After a couple weeks i found myself increasing the brightness little by little.

still cant find why DVI cords mis match, i went to costco and saw some monitors they all have a different kind of cord, white caps just like mine, but female and male match vid card to monitor, dELL 2001FP does not match same white caps to vid card. its different

I have dimension 8400 3.4ghz, 1gb ram, 256mb 6800 vid card   there is a white FEMALE holes.. in vid card, DOESNT MATCH THE MALE DVI cord for monitor!   thats what im talking about..... they are different.....     anyone knows why????   far as dpi in settings/advance, its set at 96   and i have tried adjusting brightness and contrast, helped a bit to get that color better, but i still want to know how to connect these dvi slots if they dont match

You are referring to the DVI cable that the monitor came with right?    The DVI ends are different than what the adapter looks like for analog.  The dvi cable has the 3 middle pins missing in the pin cluster, the little pins above and below the flat pin, and the flat pin is narrower.  It works fine. Clear Type can be found : Right Click an empty space on your desktop Next box shown, click on Properties near bottom Next box, click on Appearance on top Click on Effects on the lower right side on the next box And now in this next box you will see either Standard on the second box or Clear Type.  If it says Standard than click the down arrow and select Clear Type.  Click OK at the bottom and OK again in the Display Properties box.  You are done

ok it really doesnt change colors of anything, just the text gets different.   far as the DVI yes thats what i was talking about and basically its monitor female fits into cable male. but it doesnt fit into nvidia 6800 vid card different pin hole design   2 sqaures for DVI, but the 6800 card has a rectangle

thanx i did the appearance, effects, it was on STANDARD

i changed it to clear

but i cant see a difference...

ill try restarting pc, but far as this goes so far, it looks same..

and the DVI slot my 2001fp dell monitor has, the female fits into the male connector, but then my nvidia 6800(regular) does not have the same female connection. it has a rectangle white female box, and the cord and monitor female are 2 Squares instead of a rectangle.

Not sure what the problem is with the DVI port.   You have a 6800 card, top of the line, so it has both VGA and DVI (which is white) plus the s-video somewhere on the card.   Just plug the DVI cable from the monitor into the DVI port on your card. What's so hard, how could it be different? Do you still have the DVI to VGA (blue port) attached to the male DVI end on the monitor?   Since I don't have my monitor yet, I don't know if these come with two separate cables for DVI and VGA attached to the monitor, or if it just has one DVI cable with an adapter that changes it to VGA, which is where you have it connected at the moment.   Leaving it on VGA could cause some ghosting around text and other picture quality problems.

yes it is seperate!   the white cord is DVI, it fits fine into the monitor   it looks something like this:   -:::  :::      < thats what it looks like   2squares you see.   the vid card looks like this:   -:::::::::         thats the problem, so video card and monitor are female! and the cord is male.   the cord will fit into the monitor and not into the vid card.   now plz help me , that is the best explanation i can give. thanx ps: i tried forcing the white cord into the rectangle but still didnt work.

my vid card has a dvi port like yours and the dell supplied cord does fit.

The only way we can resolve this is to get photos taken.   But for examples, here is a link to an image of the dvi port on a random 6800 card: http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/14-140-045-01.JPG   Now here is a view of the port on the back of the 2001FP: http://images.anandtech.com/reviews/monitor/dell/ultrasharp2001fp/inputs.jpg   Now here is a view of a $15 dvi cable off newegg.com: http://images10.newegg.com/productimage/12-105-813-03.JPG   They look like they should fit. Do you know the exact model on brand of your 6800? GT or Ultra, then the brand.   I'm also guessing that with dvi cables, they can be different and that it doesn't have to have a pin for every hole to work, which by your diagram shows it doesn't have all the pins, might be a cable they designed that fit the montior's needs only. But that doesn't explain why when you try to force it that it won't fit.   This whole thing is like where people that are not there will tell you how could you be having trouble, there's no way, but if they were there, they'd be like, wait a minute this doesn't work., I wouldn't believe it until I saw it kind of thing. So if you can get pics or find pics online that are similar.

usb connection is only needed if you want to have the 2 extra ports on the left hand side of the monitor live for use.  Check the pins in your dvi cord, and make sure it is the right side up.  I have same cable and card configs as you and there is no problem in connection.
