2001fp at 1280 x 960 ?

I just got this monitor yesterday and am running it at 1600x1200, which looks great, but really gets a bit small.  I would like to try it at 1280 x 960, even though I know it won't be as sharp.  However, that option doesn't show up in my available displays.  My crt would do it, so the video card is capable of that res.  Can I make a custom resolution for this?  Do I need to?  Is there an updated driver somewhere.  I installed the one from the cd.  1280x1024 works fine, but gets stretched.

Thanks.

Normally 19inch and 17inch LCDs use that 1280*1024 resolution, which is a 5:4 aspect ratio. It's kind of considered to be mainly used for LCDs, in some games they put LCD next to that option. But since the 2001fp is at 1600*1200, I assume it's 4:3 ratio and not the more square 5:4 on a 19inch LCD, so that could be why the 1280*1024 looks stretched and why the drivers don't give you a 1280*960 resolution.

What video card do you have? I hear a uttility called PowerStrip might help free more resolutions. Or maybe fool the computer by forcing the wrong drivers for the screen. Another though, since quality isn't an issue, if you're running on DVI right now, maybe connect using VGA, that could change some things.

I have a geForce 6800.  Actually, it lets you make custom resolutions, and set whether you want the monitor to stretch them or not.  So, I tried that out tonight.

I made one for 1280x960 which is a ratio of 1600x1200.  I also made a 1400x1050.  But, it really does look best in its native res of 1600x1200, so that's what I'm running it in right now.  I'm still getting use to it though.

Thanks for the help though.

It's good to hear you decided to stay at 1600*1200. If not you might as well return it and get a 19inch LCD, it's only 1 inch smaller than the 2001fp and has that 1280*1024 resolution area your looking for and be sharp. Most the cost that went into the 2001fp was the 1600*1200 resolution and not the physical size.

Don't forget to set the Clear Type on...Also, look at the below suggestions for larger fonts for that larger monitor

Display Properties Section :

1. Right click with your mouse an empty space on the decktop
2. Click on Properties in the next box
3. Click on Appearance on top
4. Click on Effects over towards the lower right side
5. Now click on the down arrow on the second box that you see ( Should state " Standard " ) . Select Clear Type.
6. Now click on Apply on the bottom, than click on OK in the next window that pops up. You are now done.

Need of larger Fonts :  This will enlarge the fonts and help your eyes a bit...Try it and see if you like it before deciding to return the monitor

Go back into Display Properties

1. Click on Appearance
2. Click on the Font Size in the next window in the Appearance area, and select what size fonts you want. You can change back again if you don't like it...

You can also go to Settings in Display Properties and click on Advanced. Here you will be able to change the DPI setting from 96 DPI to 120 DPI that will also enlarge the fonts

I agree with sr45.  My display properties are set at 144dpi (150%).  Type is very good and large.  You need to stay at 1600x1200 for best results with 2001fp.

:smileyhappy:

I've been using the monitor for about two weeks now(1600x1200).  I actually have the fonts at the normal size.  I played around a bit with customizing them from 8pt, I think, to 10pt,

but went back to normal size.  I'm starting to get use to the size.

It really is beautiful this big, and sharp.  The only thing I noticed, and maybe this is just my eyes, but it doesn't seem entirely flat.  It feels like it "bows" ever so slightly in the middle.  Anyone else notice this?  Normal, not normal?

Might be an illusion. If you spot a line that you feel is bending because the screen is not flat, then find a ruler, piece of paper and hold it up to the screen to check if it's really straight. I can imagine these things happening on a CRT due to glass and such, but on an lcd it would be odd unless it's defective.
