2001FP Just Shipped... Should I worry?

Hi folks,

I've been watching the posts with regards to the 2001FP and mine just shipped this morning. Should I be worried about the issues that seem to surround these monitors, or can I count on the more recent units being shipped not having the problems listed?

Thanks,

Can I ask the two of you how long it was since you ordered your monitor ? I ordered mine last friday and was told that there was a slight delay in delivery due to very high demands - up to a maximum of two weeks. I myself has also gotten a bit worried now if my unit will be free from defects or not. As long as it doesn't cost me anything more than time I will however ask for new ones 'til I get one which is perfect.

I still got my 21" CRT to use while I wait.

Please post updates how everything goes. The best of luck to you two and your monitors !

I ordered mine Sunday, Dec 7th.  It shipped on Wed, Dec. 10th and arrived today.  I really like the size and the image, but I don't think the pixels are acceptable.  I have a more budget end E171Fpb and it has zero problems and/or defects.  I would expect the same out of their top of the line monitor.

I just got mine via Airborne Express about 2 hours ago.  It is beautiful...but.  It has multiple stick pixels, all in the center portion of the screen.  Some stuck red, some stuck green, other barely noticeable ones are stuck blue.  I am simply not going to accept something that is less than perfect, epecially since I paid my hard earned money for it and it is not exactly cheap.  Mine is revision A00 and has a build date of October.  I believe I am going to call Dell now.  My only question is if I should request a refund, or a new unit.  I am not confident that a new unit will be free of defects also.

Ofcourse you shouldn't just "be content" with faulty stuff they send you. Maybe it woudda been a difference if you really had to search for faulty/dead/stuck pixels - but if they are so noticeable, you should definately get a new one. Remember, it is YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY and you did certainly NOT pay to be given defective equipment !

I really wish it could go as quickly with my order as with yours - however, holidays are coming up, lots of days off - according to my presumptions, I'll have to wait until somewhere around January 10:th before mine arrives - and I really hope that it is NOT anything wrong with it !

And a merry X-mas btw =)

I too just received the 2001FP with an XPS system. It has the build date of October 2003. So far I have noticed one stuck pixel in the upper right hand corner. I haven't noticed any others as of yet. However, I do have some uneven backlighting (really only in the upper right) which isn't too terrible but nevertheless the screen was a chunck of money. I'm just concerned I'll get another one which is worse.

my 2001FP also has some problems.

first is the infamous washed out corner thats from the result of one of the CCFL lamps not being properly aligned.

and two, I have some dead sub pixels which arent "too" noticeable but I can see them.

so I called Dell and they are sending me a new one. however, I'm already quite scared that the replacement might very well have the same problem which kinda stinks because I really dont feel like playing an endless game of RMAing on a $1,000 piece of equipment. the other thing that worries me is what happens after my initial 30 days runs out? will Dell keep on sending me replacement LCDs until I get one that isnt faulty or will I run out of time and eventually be stuck with a faulty LCD that I may have to live with? if so, I am NOT going to be a happy camper.

we'll see...

I had to send back two lcd monitors, which was not a joy believe me, however, after your thirty days are up, they will send another monitor, but only a refurbished one.  I would send the monitors back if it were under the thirty days and purchase the 1901 or 1703FP monitor, which do not have the same issues many people are having with the 2001FP.

Good-luck ozziegn

I talked to tech support yesterday and they are sending me another.  I will give it one shot only.  If this is not a good monitor, I will be requesting a return for refund.  This is too much money to not be perfect.  It is also very frustrating talking to the tech support.  I am frustrated with my experience so far.

Yes, that is exactly how I want to feel about my new monitor.  What month and revision is your monitor?

I am very happy with my 2001FP. Perhaps I was just lucky, but  the lamps are aligned, and there aren't any dead pixels that I noticed. (I used the Nokia monitor test to make fairly sure.)

In the past I've had other LCD screens with dead pixels, and it always bothered me. If my 2001FP had dead pixels I would probably return it.

I think the screen-door pixel issue is a matter of personal taste. It doesn't bother me, but I can see how it might bother some people.

I love these features:

  • Low price. ($750 compared to $1100 for the comparable Samsung 213)
  • Great image quality.
  • Good for playing games, watching video.
  • Pivots
  • 1600 x 1200 is great for serious work

So for me the 2001FP is a keeper.

Buy a Planar.  World of difference.  No questions asked replacement policy with NEW (not like with Dell refurbished monitor).  Search my posts.

I wouldn't mind one or two stuck pixels but it's the back-lighting issue that I find troublesome especially since Anandtech said that their's was a pre-production model and they hoped Dell would have this problem resolved. I have one dead pixel in the upper right hand corner. I also have the back-lighting problem in the upper right hand side (like Anandtech) and a bit on the lower left corner. Is it livable? Yes. Noticeable? Only when watching a DVD which still isn't too terrible. Subjective? Yes. However, I still can't justify in keeping it for the amount of money spent for a product with a defect. Granted, LCD technology is not perfect but from reading the majority of other posts, these units are far from it. Mine was manufactured in October 2003. Are the November one's free of this defect? I'd like to hear an "official" response from Dell. I plan on calling this week before my 30 days are up and ask for a new replacement.

yeah but too bad that the Planar's dont have the nice 16ms (rise and fall)response times like the 2001FP does.

When does the 30 day clock start; from the order date, ship date or rec'd date?
