2001FP Replacement and Shipping Questions
Hello I'm on my second warranty replacement monitor within a month. The first replacement monitor(another 2001FP)went bad after a couple of weeks, so Dell was nice enough to send me another one. Problem is the new one, instead of being a standard aspect ratio 2001FP, is a wide screen 2007WFP. It works great, but I'm not a fan of the wide screen format (at least not when it's lower than 22 inches - far too small). Does Dell consider a 20" wide screen a suitable replacement for a standard aspect 20", or did I get one by mistake? I may be answering my own questions there. Do I have any recourse? Also, since the new monitor is a WS, the old one won't fit in packaging Dell sent the new one in. I was told by a CS agent from India to "just put into any box it'll fit in and ship it back", but I think it needs to be far more secured than just "put in a box." Does Dell care if I butcher the foam the new monitor was shipped in in order to make the old monitor fit it? I imagine this is far more secure than anything I could do with foam peanuts. Thanks, Smithhh

You really got upgraded. This is why everyone should buy the 3 year warranty on a monitor. Just mangle the styrofaom.

Special features: S Video and composite input. Pivot, rotate and height adjustments. USB 2.0 hub (2 port). Built in power brick.
Dell 2007WFP
20 inch Widescreen. 1680 x 1050 resolution, 16ms Response Time, 800:1 Contrast Ratio, 300 cd/m2 Brightness, 178/178 Viewing Angles, DVI and VGA Connections
Tilt, height, swivel and rotate functionality. USB Hub, S-Video, Composite Connections

First, let me say you do a great job moderating these forums. While I don't post but when I have a problem, I do lurk a bit since Dell came out with the 3007WFP-HC. Sweetness in color. Been saving my pennies for that one.
Yes, I do agree that everyone should get the 3 year contract and the Gold Support Option for business purchases (I can't stress that one enough). All of my experiences with Dell have been satisfactory to outstanding. And I do agree that the panel in the 2007WFP is a better, newer, higher quality panel, but an upgrade is debatable.
Lets simply look at the specs you posted - more specifically the most important one IMO:
2001FP - 1600x1200 resolution = 1,920,000 discrete pixels
2007WFP - 1650x1080 resolution = 1,780,000 discrete pixels
I'm actually losing just over 7% of my workspace in the upgrade.
And for my work, vertical space is far more important to me than horizontal.
Do I have any hope of getting this exchanged for a refurbed 2007FP, 2005FP, or even the old workhorse 2001FP in 4:3 aspect ratio?
Thanks for your support and time.

Very doubtful. They only substitute when there is nothing else to send.

winnieB, yes, that was my point. I actually lost screen real estate on a widescreen "upgrade." Widescreens are great once you get into bigger screens (>22), or for watching movies, but from a pure productivity point, I just lost 150px of screen hight where I need it most. Add to that Remote Desktop-ing, which I live in for work, does not render in the widescreen resolutions. You can see where I begin to run into issues. I certainly don't mean to start a flame war on the merits of standard aspect vs widescreen here, I'm just looking to find the thing that will fit my needs the best and explain why I'm not really happy with what I have right now.
I was also hoping to flank my eventual 30" with one of the 200XFP. ;)

Nope, I didn't get any notification of which monitor was on the way. I only received the dispatch saying the panel was ordered.
I actually got the new monitor before I had a chance to check the dispatch, so even if it was listed, I wouldn't have been able to do much. I can't stress enough to pay for the Gold support and advance replacement when buying anything from Dell. The quickness with which both of these replacements were delivered was very satisfying (less than 24 hours for both).
Dell's policy is to try to give you the same panel, but if none are available, give you something better. The actual panel is something better, just not the aspect ratio. That, and I'm pretty picky about what I like. :)

If it is not in stock, they will substitute another monitor. I have no idea what it would be.
