2001FP, will never get Windows 7/8/8.1 support

Hi All,

I have just recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and I am having issues with my monitor drivers. Currently installed is the Generic PnP monitor driver which doesn't let me pan past 1024x768. The monitor is a 2001FP, and any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

The only driver we offer for the 2001FP is for XP/2000 <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed / replaced from this post by Dell>. You can try to load it in Windows 7 via compatibility mode but we cannot verify that this will work.

No. There are no plans to create drivers for a monitor released in 2003. You can try loading the XP/2000 driver or use the Windows 7 generic PNP driver.

The generic PNP driver will not pan past 1024 x 768 for some reason. Is there someone I can write to to try and get this matter resolved. Regardless if the monitor is from 2003, it should still be able to work under win7 x64 operating system. There is no reason to replace a perfectly good monitor. This is not good for customer satisfaction and if you check other forums there are others complaining about this matter too..

This monitor is in very good condition and works like a charm. So basically your saying its not supported under windows 7.? Do you have any plans to come out with a generic drive that would work for it.? I mean you cant really expect someone to dispose of a monitor due to a vendor not wanting to write a new driver for it, especially in this condition.?

Do we have an update on this isssue yet. Havent heard back for anyone. We should have to replace a perfectly good monitor because the engineers arent customer facing... Is there someone I can write a letter to to get this squared away.? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow.  How about, "No, we're sorry.  The monitor was made back in 2003, so we unfortunately don't have plans to make it compatible with the latest Windows OS, because it's simply too old.  We certainly apologize!"  The way you worded it came across as "Look, we can't help you with something manufactured 9 years ago, and that should be obvious to you, dimwit".  I'm a customer service supervisor in a large call center, and I'd coach my employee and document it in their employee file if they spoke to a customer like that. I'm very disappointed.

Same here.  That's like one of my employees telling a customer, "Why you do want to speak to a supervisor? They're just going to tell you the same thing", which is also a documented coaching session.   You could have worded it "I know it's extremely unlikely, so I don't want to get your hopes up, but I'll certainly try for you!"

This is why we stepped away from Dell a few years back. Their support isn't what  is use to be.

No. As I stated, there are no plans to create Windows 7 drivers for a monitor released in 2003.

I agree with you BKLYNJames!  I see these monitors being discarded in dumps all across our beautiful city. Slated to go to landfills most likely.  This is the type of activity that makes one want to never purchase dell hardware again.  At least give us software fixes, if we wish to continue to use these monitors Many of us have no problem paying for them!! Really Dell, these products you make are good and can be utilized instead of throwing them away, adding to our global warming issues!
