2007 WFP--and nVidia 6800 problems
Hi all, I've got the above monitor (A02) running on a nVidia 6800 vanilla (dell's card) using driver version 7.7.7.4. It's being used on an XPS 400, Pent. D 930, 3.0G, 2G RAM, Windows XP, sp2.
Using standard XP screen savers the monitor will sometimes freeze as soon as the screen saver begins. I get a black screen for about 1 second, then it displays a horrible horizontal line pattern, each line about 1/2 inch long and a pxels width wide, on a slight angle all over the screen. Of course, I can do nothing because I can's see a cursor or any icons. No monitor controls have any effect on the problem and I am forced to reboot using the pc power button. This obviously poses problems when I'm in a program and haven't saved work, etc., so I'm pretty bummed about having to turn off the pc this way. It does fix itself with the reboot, though.
Sooo, I tried many different drivers for the card, and none but this (that I can find) support this monitor's res. and aspect ratio.
Anyone have any ideas for a fix on this? It's about to send me to the bar . . .
Jeff

Try "Always ON" in Power schemes. Set turn monitor off-after 1 minute to test, see if it freezes.
It will also save electricity and your monitor bulb life.
What version driver and is that driver Dell specific or can you use nVidia's from their site?

All the facts, Thanks for your suggestions. I set the screen saver option to none as you said----I think it's a better option anyway and it eliminates having to use the screen saver.
The driver for the nVidia 6800 came with the PC, installed by Dell. It's a fairly old version (7.7.7.4) but it seems to be the only one that supports this monitors resolution and aspect ratio. I've tried 3 or 4 of the most recent nVidia drivers (from their site) and none go higher than 16:9, which doesn't look all that good . . . :)
Thanks again for the help and any more suggestions you might have.

Reset the monitor. Try unplugging it for a few minutes, plug back in, get into menu and reset to defaults if possible.
Might be time to use the warranty and exchange it if possible.
Device manager showing any problems?
following if PC is freezing:
If it is, you should look in the system events log and see what’s going on as to what type of error message your getting.
Rt. Click C:/ desktop icon> Manage>System Tools> Event Viewer>System, then find the error message.
This may tell you something or it won’t mean much to anyone but Microsoft but look.
First of all, Dell should have the driver that will support your card with this monitor at 1920x1200. you said 7.7.7.4 does
Doesn’t Dell tell you if you can use nVidia’s drivers? Guess not at 16x10 anyway.
There may be fragments of multiple driver files and you need to uninstall the current driver run driver cleaner and install a newer driver.
I’m using nVidia’s driver 8.4.2.1 for a Gainward TI4600 nVidia card.
That’s a 4-year-old card with a 5-month-old driver.
Running two 2407FPW’s both on DVI and both at 1920x 1200.
That being said, have you gone to:
http://www.guru3d.com/
has drivers and driver cleaner.
Other info. from:

nVidia's 6800 vanilla runs about 50 - 75 dollars more than the 6600GT... but face it, nowadays, people generally buy vanilla cards to try to soft (or hard) mod them to their better big brothers.
playafly187 wrote a huge article on unlocking the 6800 vanilla to 6800GT specs last month. Sure, unlock it, but just hope you have no problems, as it is a sure guarantee for massive warrantee voidage.
Have you moded the card at all?
Even with an older video card you need to update the driver just to play a newer specific game.
You probably know a lot of the above but, I don’t know your level of expertise in these matters, hence all the explanations.
So (7.7.7.4) gives you 16x10. Hope you don’t need to update that driver for a specific game or app. in the future. I would want to be able to use the latest or more recent driver in the 9000 seriesnVidia drivers that optimizes speed, performance and quality. And you should be able to.
6800GT’s had trouble with 2407fpw until updating driver to latest 9300 series, text was fuzzy.
And try all the above or your in for a format and fresh install of XP.
When is the last time you did a fresh install of XP?
Again: Is your monitor still freezing without the screen saver activating?
How old is the LCD?
Hope it helps:)
Anyone else?
