2007WFP Screen Stretching

All of my text, icons and images are stretched out horizontally and squished vertically. I don't know whether it is the display or my graphics card (Matrox P650pcie). Not even sure what to call the problem, but I've tried different resolutions and nothing fixes the problem. My second CRT monitor is just fine.

Can someone give me some direction to troubleshoot this, please?

Thanks,
Sue

OregonSue,

Do you get the horizontally and squished vertically in safemode? If not, the issue is with the video card driver.

* Power the system off
* Power the system on
* At the blue Dell, tap F8 to bring up the Windows boot menu
* Scroll to and select Safe Mode [Press the Enter Key]
* Select the first or only operating system [Press the Enter Key]

Also check if you are using a widesreen resolution. Otherwise the monitor is prob. stretching a 4:3 instead of a 16:10.

I tried putting the machine into safe mode. All I got was lines of text ... Windows did not open in safe mode, so I couldn't check the first thing.

Yes, I probably do have it set to WideScreen ... how do I change that?

Thanks,
Sue

ChrisM instructions are right but as your computer is booting keep tapping the F8 key until it boots into safe mode. Just tapping once is not good enough.
Actually I thought that maybe your screen was set to a 4:3 resolution & thus stretched your display. If it is already a widescreen resolution it should not stretch anything.
You can alter resolutions by right clicking on the desktop & click your adapter & maybe then click advanced settings & you should see the available resolutions to set for your monitor. btw the monitor should be set for 32 bit color.

Hope this helps.

Ok. Finally figured out that to get my PC into Safe Mode, you hold down the F8 key, not tap it.

The stretching does occur in Safe Mode. So per your earlier response, it *is* the monitor.
Using the monitor's display settings, it is set on Widescreen and Fill. I could find no way to change to 1:1 (seemed logical to me). It is as if that ability is turned off.
The CRT monitor connected via the dual head card displays perfectly.

The monitor is the REV A00 build if that has any bearing. I received the monitor on June 1, 2006.

Thanks for sticking with me on this.

Ring customer support. afaik you should be entitled to an A02 version as in the way that the 2407 s A00 - A01 are replaced with A02 monitors as the earlier ones have known faults;)

Thank you, I will try that on Monday. When I tried to get through a week ago Saturday, I had no luck. Now I know for sure it's a monitor problem and that will help immensely.

You are much appreciated, Chris.

Just wanted to let you know that a new display should be here by Thursday. The customer service transaction went very smoothly. Sue is a happy camper and still impressed with Dell.

Thanks for your part in solving my problem.
