2007WFP situation in Canada

hi there,
i'm interested in getting the aforementioned monitor and i was wondering if anyone in canada had to deal with the banding problem – and if so, how did dell.ca handle it? is the exchange procedure the same? do the ones selling now on dell.ca have been "flashed," or... are they on special because they haven't... ;-)

thanks fo any input!

prurit,

Regretfully, no. All currently selling ones will have to be exchanged.

Dell monitor are made in US even if we are in Canada. I had to fight a bit to get mine back for refund (I was one of the early unhappy guy to get one in sale at $429CND) I will wait for a while before ordering it again so I can be sure it's really fixed and tested. I won't be beta tester for Dell again :smileywink:

THX ChrisM...I received my 2007WFP on May 26 and then discovered this issue. Though relieved to hear about the "fix" being worldwide I'm still concerned when I read the following: Dell Community Forum Terms of Service

"The Dell Community Forum is an English language forum geared towards users of Dell products and services that were purchased in the U.S. for use in the U.S. Use of the Forum is governed by U.S. law. Although Dell customers from other countries are welcome to use it, Dell Community Forum moderators are not trained to assist these customers, and the advice on the Forum is not intended for their use, and thus may not be helpful or relevant to such customers."

After sending you a PM, is there any way to confirm we are on the exchange list before our refund period expires and we get stuck with this monitor?

In anticipation of receiving my 2007WFP I was doing some research. I was surprised to read about this problem, especially with so many posts coming hours after my purchase time. It's disappointing to think that I will probably need to exchange my monitor shortly after receiving it. However, I hope that Dell will "Surprise and delight" with their quality and service. Regardless I will be testing my monitor just as soon as it arrives.

According to ChrisM the 21 day return policy is being waived for this monitor if you are returning due to the banding issue. Whether or not this banding issue is fixed by firmware, Dell seems to be doing what it can to make the small amount of customers (face it, we're just little fish in a big pond) that find the banding unacceptable happy. That's why I bought the monitor because I knew one way or the other I would be happy, either with a fixed monitor or a refund to go by a different model.

I sent a PM to chris and see that he has read it, I also am in Canada and just recieved my monitor yesterday.

frankly as soon as it came in I PM'ed chris right away..... before hooking it up. the issue is not really that bad unless your a power user. It plays counterstrike fine for me..... using gradient strip test banding is present but only very mildly.

no backlight issues and no bad pixels..... maybe I got one of the good ones, but still going to exchange it for a fixed one as a year or two down the rd it could bite me in the rear when I get a better video card.

I am currently running a 256meg 6800GS card, thru the DVI port.

THX for the quick reply ChrisM, though a bit short on details ;)

Westicle said "using gradient strip test banding is present but only very mildly." How do I run that test or something similar? I have found mild colour banding and only in some gaming applications. Didn't know what I was seeing until I ran across these threads....

Currently I'm running a 5950 Ultra/256 and am upgrading to a 6800GT/256. I'm actually thinking about exchanging this 2007WFP for the 24" 2405WFP instead of a "fixed" 20".....just not sure if the 6800GT with be enough card.

On second thought I've just read about the "noise" issue with the 24" Dell....sigh!!

As per my sticky, "The factory in China is working overtime to flash the monitors. This flash cannot be done at your home. They will get them to our hubs as fast as they can. Once they are in the hubs, our dispatchers will start processing the exchanges. I cannot give you any definitive time or dates on when they will get to the hubs."

I couldn't shake the bad feeling I had about this monitor. Hours on the phone with tech support and customer care, the idea of a promised exchange only stated in the forums, not knowing how long a wait before my number came up and doubting that a bios flash would be enough to cure this monitor....I opted to return it before that window closed forever.

Sorry Dell....but I found a nice Samsung SyncMaster 215tw with better specs and only $45 more at Future Shop. When I fired it up I couldn't believe my eyes. Crisp, clear and fast, I'm convinced I did the right thing...no bios flash would ever make that Dell look as pretty as what I'm looking at now.

My first experience with Dell will likely be the last.

I have similar feelings.  While I'm sure that Chris is doing his job well there seems to be an inherent lack of professionality in addressing this issue.  This has resulted in a lack of comfort and peace of mind for more customers than myself i see.
