2405FPW Changes needed to resize picture screen
I have Dimension 8400 Serv Tag 4HP5S61 It has256mb nvidia GeForce 6800 Bios 5.41.02.17.25
On12/21/05 I purchased 2405fpw ao5. I am now on 1024x768 screen res. but when I change to
1920x1200 my picture size is reduced to about 1/4 of the screen. I am a novice but I am hoping a
simple display driver will allow me to enjoy it best. If so what is the best driver to install?
My factory installed display driver File name is
nv4_disp.dll Version 6.14.10.6684

What refresh rate are you trying to use at 1920x1200?
Most LCD monitors use a refresh rate of 60Hz. If that's set wrong, it will affect the size of the image.

Monitor type says: plug and play. Tim I really appreciate your help. This is my first computer as of
1 yr ago at the age of 68.

I don't have a 2405 just yet but I hope to be ordering one myself in the next week or so.
In the meantime, I checked the specs, and it does say that it SHOULD be indetified as a plug-n play monitor, so you should be good on that account. Some of the LCD monitors I've used, have to have a .inf file installed so the OS sees the monitor as a specific model. That's why I asked.
Now, your video card itself should be good enough to support the proper resolution, so that shouldn't be the problem.
Can you select 1920x1200 resolution and 60Hz refresh from the display properties screen?
When you do, does the monitor change to 1920x1200x60Hz and fill the screen?
If it does, at what time does it revert back to the 75Hz refresh? right away? sometime later?
Have you tried using the 'auto-adjust' button on the monitor?
are you using the analog connection or the DVI connection between the video card and the monitor.
as far as video drivers, since you have a Geforce card, you can go to nvidia.com and download the current drivers.
No worries on your age, I'm no spring chicken myself.

I think I was given $60. credit for using Dell Prefered Acc....I changed to 60hz then 1920x1200 screen
size still small. Under OSD image settings auto adjust is grayed out. I have always used the DVI.There is a scaling adjustment for aspect ratios. I havent tried it yet under OSD Positioning has a Zoom +/-. As for the Hz change, I tried shutting down. When I restarted I had the same small screen showing 1920x1200 @60Hz. The 75Hz came when I reduced screen resolution to 1024...
The CD with this monitor has a Driver File Name R91822.EXE dated 7/06/2005 19MB But from what I read this was only neccessary if my graphics card did not see 1920x1200 resolution.
I have been reluctant to try it.

Curious where you found that bit of advice in the specs? I've got a 2405FPW and loaded the appropriate monitor drivers for it so that my computer 'knows' what monitor I have and stopped saying 'Plug and Play'. No problems doing so. I know some people who do serious Photoshop work may not load those drivers due to issues with the color profile or some such, but I've had no issues with mine as a non 'plug and play'.
If you end up needing or wanting to install them, they are available here:

Whilst I was looking at the user guide for the monitor at Dells web site, I expected to find a mention somewhere regarding device drivers for the monitor, but nothing was mention in the user guide.
What I DID see in the user guide, was....
Plug and Play CapabilityYou can install the monitor in any Plug and Play-compatible system. The monitor automatically provides the computer system with its Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) using Display Data Channel (DDC) protocols so the system can configure itself and optimize the monitor settings. If desired, the user can select different settings, but in most cases monitor installation is automatic.
If there ARE drivers, (and thank you for pointing them out), then it's far better to use them usually rather than relying on 'plug-n play. At least that's my experience.
FWIW to the OP....
Also, of note from the user guide under troubleshooting, I found.....
Screen image is too small
Image is centered on screen, but does not fill entire viewing area
and also... referring to my suggestion to try the 'auto-adjust'
NOTE: When choosing DVI-D mode, Auto Adjust hot key function is not available.

Craig: You recommended that I download File R91058.EXE Is this like a filmware which does not require an uninstall of my original driver? In my INVIDIA GeForce 6800 Properties window under the driver tab I have these options:DRIVER DETAILS...UPDATE DRIVER...ROLLBACK DRIVER..UNINSTALL I clicked update driver and now instead of plug and play I am showing in Display: DELL 2405FPW(Digital) on Nvidia GeForce 6800.
I Appreciate your expertise. Bill E (srvetter)
