2405fpw problems - weird discolored vertical bar randomly appearing

i got my brand new dell 2405fpw in yesterday. no dead pixels and the thing is huge. i've only had one problem. after about an hour or so of use a 2" thick semi-transparent discolored bar runs down the middle of the screen. for example, when the background is a light color (white or gray) in Firefox or Word, the discolored bar is a bright white. when the background is a dark color (brown or black) in Battlefield 2 or Half-Life 2 the discolored bar is blue.

my previous monitor was a 19" viewsonic lcd that came with a drivers cd. when i installed my new 6800gt it required that i install that driver during the first boot up. could this problem arise from that old driver? if so, how do i remove it? i checked the 2405 cd and could not find a driver on it, only old nvidia or ati display drivers.

i also tried connecting my xbox to the monitor via an s-video cable and got the same problems. therefore i doubt it's a driver problem.

please help me solve this problem. without the discolored bar, watching this monitor is like gazing into heaven. when the discolored bar rears its ugly head it's like slow torture.
