2405FPW too bright!
I find the 2405FPW 24" LCD too bright. I'm not alone, it seems

I already have brightness turned down to zero, and gamma in nvidia's control panel set to zero as well. It's still uncomfortably bright. The only way I can tet the brightness to a tolerable level is to turn down the video card's brightness and contrast levels, but then I'm left w/ a dim picture where all dark details are lost.
I had a HP f2304 23" LCD before and didn't have this problem. The monitor is otherwise quite nice. But it's unusable for me b/c it hurts my eyes and gives me headache.
The problem is Dell is doing the same thing other companies do: crank up the brightness b/c it looks good on spec sheet and in reviews, but is very unergonomic for every day, long use.
Maybe Dell will release a firmware update to let people turn the brightness down some more.
PS: I have plenty of light in my office. Any more and I will need sunglasses.

I've noticed that the 2405FPW is definitley bright as well...just a lot of screen area.

I use this monitor as PC monitor and TV. I agree completely that it is much to bright and you can not dimm it enough.
For PC usage I could get the settings quite well at brightness 0. The nice side effect is that it stays quite cool and uses only 50 watts.
But for TV usage using the S-Video input I have to chose a brightness of 50 to get reasonably good (not really good but OK) colors. This lights up my whole living room. And the monitor gets quite hot using 80 watts.
The only workaround I see is to have an indirect light behind the monitor to stand the brightness.

I just received my 2405FPW last night and I'm loving it so far. Hands down the best PC related investment I have ever made.
The first thing I did was turn the brightness down to zero. Although it should have been designed to go much lower, my personal opinion is that it's not that bad. The monitor's sharpness and jaw dropping screen real estate far outweigh the bleeding eyeballs and brain tumor inducing radiation this bad boy creates. :smileyvery-happy:
