2407 24" Widescreen

I have been following the message board for the past few weeks and I noticed that there were some severe problems with banding in the 24" 2407 monitor. Since the A02 version is supposed to be out, I noticed very little discussion about this problem. Would it be safe to assume that the problem has been fixed and I would not be wasting money in purchasing this seemingly awesome product.

Moderator suggested waiting until July 5th to order this monitor, and the turn over for the newer version will be completed. Don't hold your breath on that one either.

It appears that there might still be some issues with banding on vertical gradients--I started a thread with the name " 2407 A02--Problem with Banding in Vertical Gradients?"  (I think its message id 58885).

You must be in the Optimal preset resolution (1920 x 1200 at 60 Hz) and in Desktop Mode, not Gaming or Multimedia.

Are any of you using Gamma Correction software?

So Chris, do you still stand by waiting until July 5th to order? Why is it taking so long to fix this thing anyways? I would assume with so many people interested in buying this monitor Dell would actually want to fix the problem quickly. Can't be good for business

So I take it, it would be best for me to wait for what I assume to be the A03 version to come out. Hopefully very soon in July too. Samsung has an almost idenitcal monitor that looks nice. The only reason I dont buy that is because its $400 more. I'll be looking for an accounment of a REAL fix soon.

The reason there are still issues with the flashed 2407WFP A02 revisions is that only the firmware is being upgraded from A00 and A01 units (as you all know).  The new, factory fresh units that are to ship in July actually have DIFFERENT`hardware components inside to address the color banding issues in all 3 modes.  The flashed A02 firmware units (from the A00 and A01) cannot fix this and never will.  That's why some of you are still having issues with the flashed firmware.

This is coming from the Product Group that Chris has referred to previously - and I have some names in that group that have relayed this information to my rep and his boss (not saying it's true, but it's what I've been told).  The reason I have the info is that I alerted my rep a week ago about the issues and since my company ordered 100+ units, I'm at the top of the list for the hardware based A02 replacements starting July 1.  Dell doesn't want that much revenue lost.  We're not accepting the flashed A02 units as there are still flaws - we shall see if the units in July actually do address all of these issues.

bhsizemo,

I cannot find any verification of the data you presented. I would like to question your sources as to where they got this information.

I don't think anyone had released the information I gave on this board or any other to date.  The flashed A02 monitors that are currently being shipped (upgraded from A01 and A02 hardware) are DIFFERENT (from what the product group is sending out) from the brand new A02 units that will ship in July.  The new A02 units in July are based on a HARDWARE fix, not a firmware fix like the current A02 monitors shipping.  I would just wait until mid July on these boards to see if people think these new units shipping July 5th have fixed the issues.  You may have to wait a while for an A03 revision.

That would be nice to hear if its true, but bad for those that got the firmware upgrade instead.  I've been waiting for this monitor or even the 2007 for sometime now, and again, we have to wait.  Waiting is better than getting something fixed instead of a band-aide.

eldurso,

A02 is the fix. Some users are reporting vertical banding but I haven't seen this in the lab. All the A02 2407s look good to me.

So whats the deal then with the monitor? Is there no fix coming out for the monitor?
