2407 and windows x64 (+DVI)

Hi, I have a brand new A03 2407WFP monitor, and am having two issues with it:

1) The monitor drivers on the supplied CD don't work. I'm running windows x64, and when I click on 'monitor.exe' it says 'The image file D:\monitor.exe' is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine'. When I try to manually change from generic plug-and-play monitor using Windows' 'update driver' function and browsing to 2407WFP.INF on the CD it proceeds to start installing, then fails with: 'There was a problem installing this hardware (Dell 2407WFP (Analog)). An error occurred during the installation of the device. The system cannot find the file specified'.

1) I'm having a lot of trouble with the DVI connection. Connecting via the DVI output of my 7950 GX2 NVidia card (latest drivers) using a VGA cable and DVI adapter connected to the card works fine, but using the supplied DVI card I can't get the right colors to appear. It's wildly overly blue or red-saturated, even upon POST and bootup, implying it's not a driver or color space issue but something to do with the DVI input or monitor calibration.

Is it something to do with the display's overall color temperature? I cannot find on-screen controls for this, though I find individual gamma adjustments for RGB, and I cannot find an auto-sync signal display control. Are there some hidden advanced menus I can bring up?

I'm very computer-literate, though somewhat new to flat panels, and this has been quite frustrating. Any suggestions?

Thank you,
Shane

Just figured one more thing out: I've actually managed to configure the DVI input to look reasonable, except that it cannot display the color red at all! Everything else appears to be fine. I've checked all the connections carefully, but even from the BIOS screen, which takes the display drivers out of the picture, no red, no matter how I configure it, except in the monitor's OSD menus, where it shows up just fine. I've set all OSD monitor settings to factory defaults with no change. This is really frustrating. Is this actually a bad DVI cable or something? I had the impression that was a very rare occurrence.

sounds like a bad connection or bent pins. info is not beng sent correctly. i suggest look at the cable and make sure no pins are bent. and if you are 100% its not your video card, get an exchange done via tech support or the tech chat.

Yes, the DVI cable definitely was manufactured improperly. Several of the pins are not bent, but too short!

However, this doesn't address the driver question. How can I install the drivers for this monitor, including the card readers?

Thank you,
Shane

Hi,

to install the drivers you can't use the software installer included on the cd. You have to do it manually.

follow these instructions to manually update the driver.

-right click on my computer and choose properties
-then click on the hardware tab
-then click on device manager
-expand monitors
-should say Plug and Play monitor
-right click on it and choose update driver
-Say "not this time"
-click next
-choose install from a specific location
-check include this location in the search
-and in the location bar choose the cd rom with the driver on it
-click next and it should find and install the driver automatically

there you go!

This is exactly what I described in my original post, as far as I can tell. The result was an error:

"When I try to manually change from generic plug-and-play monitor using Windows' 'update driver' function and browsing to 2407WFP.INF on the CD it proceeds to start installing, then fails with: 'There was a problem installing this hardware (Dell 2407WFP (Analog)).
