2407WFP-HC 1:1 issue which was not there before
Hi,
I've tried to look through the various threads here, but can't find one that addresses my problem.
I bought a 2407WFP-HC last year because that revision allowed 1:1 and Aspect to work with 1080 sources.
When I first got the monitor, I was using it with the PS3 set at 1080p with a HDMI-> DVI convertor. It worked beautifully. By setting it at 1:1, I had 1920 x 1080 with the small black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Yes, it was 1080P.
I was also using the monitor via DVI for my pc, and swapped the cables as and when I needed to play what I wanted.
I left my ps3 gathering dust for some time, and I recently tried reconnecting it to the monitor. Unfortunately, the monitor refuses to lock 1:1 and instead stretches the picture to the full 1920 x 1200. It is therefore impossible for me to get a proper 1:1 for 1080p for the ps3.
I also have an Xbox 360. Via component, the monitor will deal with 1080i, but the picture looks awful. Lots of black issues and the image just isn't satisfying.
I bought the VGA connector and the picture quality has improved tremendously, but, like the PS3, I cannot get 1:1. Setting the VGA cable at 1920 x 1080 (via resolution settings...I do not get the 720p/1080i/1080p selection when using the VGA cable) gives me a full stretched screen at 1920 x 1200. Currently, I am using the lower res, which is effectively 720p (the exact res escapes me right now), and I can set that as 'aspect' and it will keep proper aspect for the full screen (i.e. black bars top and bottom).
What disturbs me is that when I originally received the monitor, it could do 1:1 for 1080 absolutely fine, but now, it just refuses to, no matter what I do.
Is this a known issue? I'd be grateful if someone could help, thanks!

This is not a known issue. I tested your issue in Dell Display Lab. for two days after seeing your post, I can not duplicate your issue. The monitor used is 2407WFP-HC REV A00, Made on June 21, 2007. It accept 1:1, Aspect and fill setting all perfectly. The cable used to connect the XBox360 and Monitor is HDMI to DVI. Do you use the same kind of cable or coverter Box or other adapters? These indirect connections or fault cable may affect the setting. Just for your reference

Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid that you used a different cable for the 360 than I did.
My 360 is connected via VGA port on the monitor using the 360's VGA cable accessory. I use no convertor box. The montior's HDMI port is connected to my PC. There are no indirect connections nor any cable adaptors used.
Oddly enough, since your post, I have managed to solve the problem using one of the solutions unrelated to this issue, but which I found on this forum:
1. Disconnected all cables from the monitor including power cable.
2. Reconnected VGA cable from 360 alone and after that powered on monitor.
3. Powered on 360 and managed to set resolution at 1920 x 1080, with the monitor fixing the correct aspect ratio using '1:1' and 'aspect' (i.e. moving between these two options does not affect the aspect ratio, which I think is correct).
4. Powered down 360, monitor goes to standby.
5. Connected PC and turned that on. PC display at native 1920 x 1200.
6. Powered on 360 (pc still on) and switched inputs to vga. Proper aspect ratio at 1920 x 1080 for 360.
7. Continued switching between Vga and DVI inputs tested - proper aspect maintained on the 360 (1920 x 1080 with black bars top and bottom) as well as the PC (1920 x 1200 no black bars at all).
Am I right in suspecting that the monitor sort of sets itself from the first input it receives and then it doesn't deviate from there? So if I had plugged in my DVI cable from the PC first, the monitor wouldn't accept anything other than 1920 x 1200, but by plugging the 360 in first, it sort of 'understands' how to deal with a lower res?
I don't know if that made sense, but the above solution managed to work.
What you could try to do to replicate my problem is:
1. Unplug everything from monitor.
2. Plug in the PC via DVI and power on so that you get native 1920 x 1200 res.
3. Plug in 360 via VGA cable without unplugging monitor from power.
4. Power on 360 and see if it'll go to 1:1 or aspect properly.
