2407wfp-HC Color Uniformity problem.
Im having an issue with this dell monitor. I do not consider myself being overly sensitive to colors. Especially since most of my work involving cad / web / and Photoshop are not to particular on color accuracy. Close enough is often more than i need.. i do however need resolution.
This is a brand new dell 2407-hc. Having some issues with color gradients on the screen. During use there is a very ANNOYING strong color cast from green to red across the screen. It was particularly most disruptive during web page viewing and Cad work ( anything with a solid color back ground). Its distracting to read an article and have the color so drastically change as your eye scans the page.
So being that I spent some coin on this display, I called dell technical support to see if they could help me resolve the issue. They sent over a replacement after some trouble shooting - only thing is, the replacement has a stronger gradient from red to green than the original. Only its from left to right, and a tad less noticeable since reading usually goes from top to bottom. The last replacment seems to be ok, as the color seems to be very uniform during use.
Setup: MacbookPro Connection Via DVI port.
Color Calibrated initially. Fully warm monitor.
The Images where taken with a Digital SLR, White balance manually set to 6500k ( on the camera ), all exposures the same.
The picture is taken with a half grey background on the monitor.
I put together the images in Photoshop to arrange them in a 3 level stack. The color saturation, was not changed. All three had equal factory settings. red 96 green 94 blue 100 Mac mode custom. None of this should have affected the color distribution.
Camera perspective was with a 50mm lens, at the same distance and heights.
Dell with their responsive customer service was ready to help solve the issue. I just wish i would not have to deal with the issue. top is the original middle is the first replacement third is the last replacement.
The Last one looks fine enough to work with.
I doubt that I have received defective samples 3 times in a row. But there is a drastic difference from one monitor to the next regarding color uniformity. There are some trends, all have a MUCH warmer right side, all have warmer lower sections. This is probably a characteristic of the back lighting and or panel. When using the monitor, in all other situations the "problem" is not noticeable. I just happen to use applications where im viewing a very solid background, quite often.
