2408WFP Continued
The thread "2408WFP rev A01 is out, but what are the changes?" has gotten too long to manage. I am locking that thread and any new comments should posted here.
Summery
A new firmware version of the 2408 was released. As the monitors work their way through the supply chain it will become more and more likely that you will receive a version A01 monitor when you order new.
For those getting replacements, all refurbished monitors in service stock should have the new firmware. If you get a new exchange there is still a chance it will be A00 but that should diminish over time.
The new firmware addresses:
- Input lag.
- Not coming out of standby with some video cards.
- Changes the Sharpness settings to increments of 10 rather then 25.
Thank you for your patients through all of this, believe me it's been as frustrating for me as it has been for many of you.

Specifically in that exchange we were talking about brightness, or at least I was, turned out what the other individual was referring to as brightness was actually VA color shift not brightness.

I'm trying to verify that right now, as soon as I know I'll post it.

As other said, it is "normal" on this monitor. I've noticed that if I shift my view so that the pink part of the screen is DIRECTLY in front of me (as if the left side of the monitor is the middle), it goes away. Seems like a viewing angle dependent issue. Could be exacerbated by the problems inherent to *VA panels, but definitely also part of this particular monitor's quirks.
I'm assuming these were MY settings you picked up (they look familiar, LOL!) -- but keep in mind, I used those as a starting point for HARDWARE calibration. Also, they varied a lot monitor to monitor. Seems to me that if you aren't doing hardware calibration and only using the monitor's settings, others posted something somewhere on these threads about using custom RGB settings in the 60's (not the 90's). I'm too lazy to go off looking for the posts myself, but perhaps someone will repost them.

So just a summary of my new A01...
1) Running at 1920x1200.
2) cleartype off. sharpness at 40; perfect..Everything is sharp and readable if not more compared to my 19" viewsonic CRT. Should I bother with that software program to get like 42-45 sharpness?
3) played a game (DOTA, WC3 mod) and hacked the registry so it would play at the native 1920x1200 panel reso, and it looked and played great. Experienced no input lag, and if it was there, didn notice any.
4) after digging through some posts I decided to copy someone elses custom RGB settings of 96,92,98 and it works great. Brightness is currently set at 15 but thats just random..Dunno how bright this should be cause my CRT is pretty darn dark...Any help advice? im sure its very subjective..
5) really happy with my purchase. got it for 25%+ free shipping. Grand total $554 and change.
Very happy so far.
P.s.
Im runnin DVI into the Dell and vga into my Viewsonic crt. Dual setup is nice.
Really glad I didnt get the $27" because the dot pitch on the 24 is perfect for me. :)

Well in addition to ShnikeJSB comment, I've done some testing with various ambient light conditions.
I definitively confirm that the 2408 looks ways better when enough light are coming onto the screen (once the monitor is properly calibrated).
Panel non-uniformity (like the pink tint) are less or no more noticeable.
Also, fonts are clearer and sharper (if you've set the sharpness to a good value:40-43).
It explains why once can find a 2408 very good (in an office environment, with sun light and/or neons) and another quite bad (in a dark room).
The solution could be to put a small desktop lamp beside your 2408.
This also helps to reduce eyestrain.

Hello! :smileyhappy:
As far as I can tell, every one of the monitors has the pink issue, and it is always on the bottom left. Some are more noticeable than others (MY screen seems to be among the worst... Of COURSE... LOL), but I can definitely see it on all of them.
I honestly really don't remember what it was like before calibration, but seeing as it is most likely a problem with the panel itself, I highly doubt calibration helps with the pink hue, unfortunately.
As for ambient light, another big problem we have is we are in an office environment, with row after row of extremely bright and eyestrain-inducing flourescent lighting in cubicles. The measured light output (using my calibrator and software) showed it to be insane... If I remember correctly, it was something crazy like 7000 lumens! :smileysad:
As far as I know, the Spyder2 series cannot correctly calibrate a Wide Gamut monitor like the 2408. You'd have to step up to the Spyder3 variants to do it well.

I'm also having the power save mode problem. I receive a dell 2408wfp a01 rev made in august and i thought that with this rev the power save mode problem was fixed. Basically when i turn off the monitor at night and then turn it on in morning the problem occurred and the monitor stucks in power save mode. After i turn it off and on a couple of times the problem fixed but it bother me a lot
Is normal that this happen with a rev 01? Is there some kind of solution?

My A01 does this too, and I know for SURE at least 1 other person at work with one has a problem with getting the monitor to "wake up" or be recognized when booting up. It's a minor annoyance, and only does it once in awhile. If I remember, you can turn off Power Saving mode in the menus somewhere (sorry, I took a sick day today, so I am not in front of my monitor currently).
