4:3 aspect ratio on 2407

Now that the banding issue is under some control, my final question is whether the A02 version can, like the 2405, let users send it a 4:3 signal (e.g. 1024x768 or 1600x1200) and force it to display a black bars on either side. For normal usage I prefer such 4:3 ratios but I heard the the 2407 has issues with the scaler automatically stretching the entire 4:3 desktop to fill the whole screen width...

Thanks in advance for any feedback provided here on this...

4:3 Aspect Ratio mostly works on my Rev A00. It however wont save the setting (needs to be changed each time) and 1600 x 1200 is clearly having issues as aspect ratio options are greyed out, search for my post on the issue.

Hi trabpukcip!
Thanks for your comment. So it seems A02 has still not solved the problem   :(
I need 1600x1200 and the other 4:3 and 5:4 desktop sizes because I don't always need the widescreen, and as I use remote desktop to access my home pc from my workplace pc (which has a low res lcd display), I need to be able to set the home pc to, in my absence, lower 4:3 desktop sizes regularly, to avoid too much scrolling from the office .

Referring to the manual, I also note that there are no presets for standard hd resolutions such as 1280x720p, 1920x1080i. So if I connect an upscaling dvd player to it, I wonder whether the 16:9 aspect ratio is retained with black bars, or if it will be rescaled to 16:10. In which case, this monitor (or the firmware) is not friendly to 1:1 HDTV? In that case I'd give this monitor a miss and wait for Benq and other brands that will incorporate industry-standard aspect ratios and scaling.  :(

Does the 2407 not have the aspect, fill, and exact res display modes that the 2405 had? Or are those the modes that are being quirky?

I'm about to order a 2407 pending the word from Chris that the monitors shipping out now are fixed, but I need to know that those modes are still there, if not it's a deal breaker for me as I need that aspect mode.

From what I have gathered through other posts...

1) The 1600x1200 res is problematic on the 2407 but not on the 2405. It is greyed out and you may have to do certain things each time to get it to work.

2) The other 4:3 or 5:4 resolutions are as stated in the manual. Whether they fill up the whole screen or not is the question. The 2405 has no issues on this, I think. The aspect ratio is preserved.

3) There are some doubts over the 2407's support of HDTV, such as 720p, 1080p. There are also question marks on whether the aspect ratio of 1280x720 and 1920x1080 is preserved and black bars introduced automatically, or whether the tv just stretches the video to fill up the unused screen pixels.

4) Whether the latest A02 revision addresses the above problems, no one knows. Nothing official from Dell, Chris or anyone authoritative.
