auto adjust

I've had a dell dimensions 5150b since November and had no problems with it at all. until i switched it on today and at start up a black bar with the words auto adjust in progress appears on the monitor!!!
it seems to knock my screen setting to pot everything seems brighter and grainier. i haven't done anything to set this off. how do i stop it auto adjusting every time i switch it on?

Have you had reply as to the fix to why you get the auto adjust and quivering of picture, it's annoying, I know? I found that if you power cycle your monitor including the serial cable and then restore the monitor, then reboot it stops the auto adjust from happening. If youheard anything as to why this happens and a cure please reply. Thanks

I have had the same issue with my monitor on occassion and have found that, in my case, if I power the monitor off and then press and hold the + button while turning the power back on the auto adjust problem is solved.

I realize this is an old post, but it worked for me! I spent considerable time and effort trying many other recommendations that I found online, but none solved the "auto adjust in progress" annoyance. I was just about to buy a new monitor when I read this, and so it saved me some $.
