Black square on 2000 FP top left hand corner

It does not look like you have had an answer so I will pass on what I found in the forum.  I too have had this problem.  It started with the black square that I was able to remove by turning off the PIP.  However, like you this last time the PIP source was off.  I found that one other soul was finally told by Dell to re-set the video card.  I tried it and it worked.  Give it a try.

This happened to me just this morning. The PIP was off, and the black square persisted through a couple power cycles. It was there even in the BIOS screen. I connected the FP2000 to my powerbook, which also has a DVI-out jack, and the black square was still there.

And then it went away mysteriously. I didn't change anything on the monitor or on either of the PCs. I didn't check it on any of the inputs other than the DVI, but I don't care about any of the inputs other than the DVI.

I'm waiting for it to come back.

How do you "re-set" the video card?  I just started having this same problem in the upper left corner this weekend.  I have never set PIP on and am using DVI.

You have to open the CPU, locate the video card, the one that the monitor is connected to, lift the card out of the slot and re-install the card.  Follow your directions that came with the system on how to open and make sure you have the power cord disconnected prior to starting.  Good luck.

Before trying to reset the video card, I hooked up another computer to the monitor.  The black box is still there.  i hooked it up analog and DVI and it is still there.  I made sure that PIP was off,  I turned it on and saw that the black box is indeed a PIP since I was able to watch a video signal in it when I plugged in a composite source.  When I turn the PIP back off I can't see the video source anymore, but I just get an empty black box.  Before this happened, I had never even accessed the monitor menu before, so this all began on its own.

I noticed on a related forum that a Dell representative responded to a similar description by stating that the monitor needed to be sent in for repair.  Does any one have any other suggestions for how to make this go away?  Is there some way to do a "hard reset" to the monitor to make it completely revert to factory settings?  When "factory settings" is selected from the monitor menu, nothing improves.

If it turns out that it really is "broken", how do I get it repaired.  When i bought my system, I only had the standard 1 year warranty.  It is now 18 months old.

I'm a bit late in seeing this message, but you could try to reset the monitor settings to the factory defaults (check your manual for that).
