Blurry display on startup

When I boot up my screen display is blurry - very hard to read text.
 
After a few minutes it all clears up and becomes sharp.
 
This has only started about a week ago - no changes to system in that time
 
I have:-
 
NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420 [Display adapter]
DELL E771p [Monitor] (14.9"vis, s/n 4G0171AHC5AW, October 2001)
 
Could this be a hardware problem - an indication that the monitor is failing?
 
Using Win XP  SP2 on Dell Dimension 8200

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Here are somte things to try and resolve the issue with the monitor.

  • Eliminate video extension cables.
  • Perform monitor reset (Select "Reset" in main menu).
  • Select "Moiré" from advanced controls and set H & V Moiré at 0%.
  • Decrease brightness & contrast controls
  • Lower video resolution or increase font size.
