Brand new 2408WFP woes

im a semi pro photographer so required a really good monitor and bought the 2408

The monitor is very much lighter on the left hand side so obviously no good for what i need.

i have tried to go through the usual online channels on dell support website but for the life in me i cant see a service tag on my monitor, is this because i didnt buy direct from Dell but from Scan Computers, should i contact Dell or Scan about the problem

Anyone got a direct phone number for Dell support over this new monitor

Thanks

You obviously read my response to your MVA claim here. If you still believe it's MVA you should provide some evidence.

There's a better explanation of the technologies at TFT Central, and for anyone interested, an even more technical one at X-bit Labs.

The 2408WFP is a S-PVA, but this is irrelevant for the "VA washout" issue. MVA and PVA technologies both are VA (vertical alignment) panels. S-PVA ("S" = Samsung manufacturer).

PVA technology was developed by Samsung, but the 'S' in S-PVA stands for 'Super'.

You are correct.  I didnt remember it (I think they played a double meaning). Thanks.

The problem with wide color gamut LCD displays is that the color depth remains the same 24 bit, or 8 bits per pixel.
The result of the same number of colors spread over a wider gamut is greater distance between the colors. This is the same issue manufacturers of 6 bit displays addressed by using dithering and FRC, so it could be that some form of FRC is being used in these wide gamut displays.

One effect of too few colors spread too widely is banding in gradients.

Uffs... Someone here could confirm this is present on 2408WFP?

It's present on mine. I also wonder if this is a panel meant for Central/Eastern Europe as it's made in the Czech Republic. At least that's what the sticker says on the back. The serial number also begins with CZ-. It's Rev A00 of course.

I wish it too - That the new A01 will be with a new panel (IPS).

I really wanted to buy the new 2408WFP as my first LCD screen, but after all the buzz with the A00 issue -

I DO KNOW ANYMORE.:smileyindifferent:

I had the chance to buy the 2407WFP-HC A04 and I didn't, I was waiting for the new 2408WFP - I have a great disappointment from DELL.

I saved my money on that 24" screen for along time :smileysad:

It's not fair for the costumers, why wait until may the 20th for the "big announcement"?

Please DELL, what have you change or fix in the new A01?

When I see the problems with ths IPS panel of the Dell 3008, I really hope that the Dell 2408 will keep the S-PVA panel, but eventually a new revision by Samsung (the manufacturer of the panel). S-PVA has many advantages for films/contrast, and often faster than IPS panels.
