Color banding issue resolved yet? - 2007WFP

i've had my 2007wfp for a while now and there has always been a severe 'banding' effect in color gradients. was there ever a fix for this or are we just kinda out of luck?

Snooters,

The banding was fixed for revisions A01, A02, A03, and A04. Check the rear of your monitor. If it is A00, get it exchanged. If you have a service tag number associated with your monitor, you may use Chat or Email support to setup the monitor exchange.

If you only have an Order number associated with the monitor, you must call in, 1-800-624-9896. They will need the following information -
20 digit PPID number on back of monitor
Name, address, phone, email address
Order number
Issue
Troubleshooting done

Hi Chris,   I bought a new Dell monitor a few months ago. It's revision A04, S-IPS. It's only more recently that I got into graphics more heavily and noticed severe banding issues both on VGA and DVI. Desktop mode is the only semi usable mode, while all the others are impossible.   Is there a fix for this? How come the issue still exists at A04, or am I missing something?

Problem - video banding in 2407WFP and 2007WFP monitors

Discussion - The DCDI Faroudja video processing was causing the banding

Resolution - The fix was to turn off the DCDI Faroudja video processing in the Desktop Image Mode. Any 2x07 monitor with revision A01 and beyond has this fix in place. We left the DCDI Faroudja video processing on in the Gaming and Multimedia Modes, so you will still see banding there

You might try tweaking the Red, Green, Blue in the OSD and see if it helps. But, you must be using the Desktop Image Mode.
* Press the OSD Menu button
* Press minus to move to Menu Settings
* Press the OSD Menu button
* Press minus to move to Factory Reset - Reset All Display Settings
* Press the OSD Menu button
* Press minus to move to Back
* Press minus to move to Image modes. Make sure the arrow is on Desktop Mode
* Go to Color Settings and choose the following -
PC Mode
PC Custom Color
Red: 85
Green: 85
Blue: 90
* Go to Brightness and set it to 30
* Exit the OSD
* Set the desktop resolution to 1920x1200 at 60 Hz for the 2407WFP and 1680x1050 at 60hz for the 2007WFP
* Turn off any Adobe Gamma software/profiles and any Ati or Nvidia gamma/brightness tweaks

Hi Chris. I have Rev A03, so I'm wondering if an exchange would still fix the problem. My vid card is a geforce 7900gs with the latest drivers.

I tried all of the above, and unfortunately the grandient is still very visible. It must be the implementation of the screen I think.   I saw an Apple Cinema display which aparently uses the same S-IPS panel as the DELL. However the image was flawless. No gradient banding. Colors were reproduced really well. Passed all tests.   The DELL, although better than some, failed heaps of tests... including the gradient banding which I can't get rid off at all.

ohmike, You have the latest one. Banding is fixed in the Desktop Mode only. Are you seeing this using normal windows applications and games? Please post a picture of this issue.

Hi Chris,   Yeah, I thought everything should be fixed.   I'm seeing it everywhere. From gradient tests that look smooth on other machines to Photoshop. If I make a gradient in Photoshop it looks pretty bad.   I have gamma and all other setting switched off on the card. So it's all default, no mucking around. That was done through DVI, but the problem occurs on VGA too. It's a revision A04 by what it says on the back. I got the S-IPS panel. Also, it's on Desktop mode. If I put it on any other mode it looks even worse!   Not sure what to do anymore. :(

Photoshop actually enhances the gradients. Turn off any Adobe Gamma software/profiles and any Ati or Nvidia gamma/brightness tweaks before testing for banding. If still unhappy, you can inititate a monitor exchange and see if the replacement is better. If you have a service tag number associated with your monitor, you may use Chat or Email support to setup the monitor exchange. If you only have an Order number associated with the monitor, you must call in, 1-800-624-9896.
