Contrast Ratios and picture quality(Typical vs Dynamic)

I was considering buying either the S2209w that lists a 1000:1 typical contrast ratio but then noticed a new monitor ST2310 that boasts a 50 000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio.  From my experience buying a LCD Tv I know that dynamic numbers are inflated. 

I recently seen a Samsung monitor with specs that said it was 50 000:1 Dynamic and had in brackets 1000:1 typical. 

So my question is are these contrast ratios very similar/equal and just stated differently, or does the 2310 with the higher numbers have a much better picture quality?  If there is a difference how much of a difference would I notice?  I initally planned on getting the 2209 because of price point, on sale today in Canada, but would consider the 2310 if it is a much better monitor.  I'm not into any extreme software, gaming, etc. just want a good quality monitor with a great picture.  Going to buy a hd camcorder and will probably watch videos on it as well.  Your comments are appreciated  Thanks.

P.S.    I realize Dell probably went to Dynamic for marketing purposes to be on par with other companies that are advertising the higher numbers.  It would be much less confusing to consumers if Dell advertised all their monitors with the same ratios, either typical, dynamic or both.
