So then Chris,
I guess the big question is are these specs on the 2408WFP still current? And when might this make is back onto the Dell site to place orders?

* This one <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell> always is current.
And when might this make is back onto the Dell site to place orders?
* No idea. That is a sales decision, not technical support.

Chris, Wikipedia link that you provided states that 2408WFP uses "reportedly S-IPS" panel. Can we believe this information?
Page on Dell site about 2408WFP: DELL ULTRASHARP 2408WFP
This page was published later (around Jan. 27 2008) than the user manual, and there are several small differences, notably contrast ratio:
3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio (Dell info page)
1300:1 (typ) Contrast ratio (User manual)
So which one is correct? Is the 1300:1 value with dynamic contrast ratio turned off?In 3 days time it will be whole month since almost all hardware news pages on internet published that Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP is available and shipping: Engadged site news
Since then nobody even bothered to cancel this information, and people have tried to order this monitor with various results (either their order was canceled or they got an 2407WFp-HC instead).
I hope this just means that potential problems like banding or overdrive ghosting issues are looked into.

* They got that wrong. It is an S-PVA.
Is the 1300:1 value with dynamic contrast ratio turned off?
* That is my understanding.
