AFAIK, S-IPS are the "boomerang"....

Hello,

I've a Viewsonic VX2025wm too (AUOptronics S-MVA LCD panel), and sub-pixels are "boomerangs"...

Moreover, viewing angles look really narrow for a S-IPS LCD panel.

I've a Nec S-IPS monitor at work, and the behavior of the screen is REALLY different !

There are only two companies I am aware of making 30" panels, Samsung and LG. LG has been doing S-IPS exclusively, and Samsung S-PVA exclusively (for the 30 inchers). Given that Dell has switched panels without any notification in the past, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a swap. Let us know if you can conclusively deduce that it is one kind of a panel or another.

webzeb, all,

We only use LPL S-IPS panels on the 3007s.

Hello,

CMO (Chi Mei Optoelectronics) does too (M300F1 LCD panel) :

It's S-MVA, whose viewing angles are inferior to S-PVA (and obviously S-IPS).

Fred

Hello Chris,

So why viewing angles are so narrow ?!

The simple fact of being close to the monitor (50~60cm) makes the corners grayish, and it's not due to backlight but viewing angles.

I never saw such a problem with an S-IPS panel, and even for a S-PVA it would be quite bad.

If all 3007WFP-HC use S-IPS panel, I do not understand...

Regards,

Fred

I'm concerned about this too.

webzeb: You could try sending that picture directly to LG Phillips and ask them if it's right.

Please let us know if you hear back from them.

As an owner of the HC, I know what you mean about the corners, but its definitely not a S-PVA thing. Do this; take a photo of the screen straight on, then take a photo at an extreme angle like 80 degrees off-center. And see the differences in shades.

Then compare that with what you perceive when you are close to the monitor and looking out to the corners. It should be the same.

The reason you don't perceive this on the other S-IPS panels is because you seldom sit 15 cm away from your 23" and look up to the corner. Go to an apple store and check out their 23" models up close and see for yourself.

...assuming those 23" are still S-IPS at Apple...
