Dell U4919DW plus thunderbolt 5 dock

Hi, should the above work please?  Thunderbolt 5 is newer than the monitor of course, but i thought it would still be backward compatible?  Have connected dock to monitor using the monitor single usb c switch.  Idea is that my desktop pc is connected via hdmi, and the work laptop i use at home WAS connected to that sole usb c port.  But i bought a usb c mic that doesnt work if i add a usb adaptor, so i bought a dock.  When i connect the dock (Razer thunderbolt 5 chroma), the monitor flashes up saying a usb c connection has happened, but it seems theres no signal as the dock doesnt light up.  Nor does anything work or connect if i plug them into the dock.  Removing dock does nothing, in fact is worse as it seems the items on the other monitor ports are no longer usable.recognised.  Is this normal?  Should a thunderbolt 5 dock work with a newer dell monitor?
