The E173 is a 16ms response time (versus the E172 at 25ms). This will result in less ghosting in certain apps and faster frame rates. Definitely go with it.
Not necessarily. If that is the offer, and you want your system discount in a monitor, you can do that. Or wait for a discount on the PC itself and or other upgrades your want or need, like free 2x memory upgrade, or a DVD-RW. Just remember, nothing is 'Free'. IMO I would shop around for the latter discounts and upgrades and use the savings there to pay the additional incremental cost for the E173, or better yet the 1704. But, that is just me. Good luck in whatever you choose to do. Don't rush, there are always offers and specials, nothing 'expires Friday' that usually doesn't reappear the next Wednesday!
Speaking of choices - I looked again at what Dell is offering and found the 1704 is offered at a reduced price. Looks like that will be my choice. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks, Tom. I appreciate your input on the subject. Right now the E173FP is not shown as an option at all. Possibly it will show up there eventually.
Also, that is not the only discount shown. There is free shipping and $100. rebate if I don't buy their printer!
