Does 2007FP 4:3 have issues also?

The 2007FP had the banding issue but no more. Like the 2007WFP it's being fixed.

As for backlight bleed, on mine it is very minimal. Far less then on the 2007WFP.

As to know if you'll get an S-IPS panel or an S-PVA, it's a question of luck. So if you really don't want to have an S-PVA, don't buy it.

The critical feature for me is that I will be running dual monitors with one in portrait orientation so colour gradients/fading that is normally observed at high and low angles suddenly become left to right (ie TN panels are totally unacceptable).

Do you have any sense whether 2007FP up/down angles are more/less severe with respect to colour loss than left/right?

I mainly do text work (programming) - I'm just majorly fussy about what I see out of the corner of my eye and when I move my head! S-IPS would be nice of course... but your pics are certainly promising that I dont need to be that fussy.

The angles are pretty similar in any direction. The fact is that overall the angles of the FP are better then those of the S-IPS WFP in many ways. But tone shifting will occur on the S-PVA panel, even if you are right in front of it. But this will occur only on plain colors that are not close to white or black and covers the entire monitor from left to right or top to bottom.

I do a lot of HTML programming so I pass the major part of my time looking at code just like you do. You can't see any tone shifting while doing that. You cannot notice it either if you watch pictures or movies. It's only if you see plain colors. The best example of a situation where it is noticeable is the HardOCP forums (http://www.hardforum.com/).

Bare in mind, I had the monitor for one week before I went back on these forums and could notice it. Most of the time, you don't really see it.

Also, since firmware A02 a lot of people are receiving 2007FPs with the S-IPS panel again. With any luck, you'll recieve one too.
