I just got this monitor: :smileyhappy: http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=320-5123 The E207WFP 20'' Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor And sometimes the screen flashes/flickers to black. Meaning when I play games, open Windows Media Player, or a new window, the screen flashes from all black to back to the normal picture. I don't know what it is... I was thinking my video card maybe, but would that really be whats causing it? Does anyone at all know what it could be thats causing the flashing?  :smileyindifferent:

anitisrhc, Try switching to the other port (VGA or DVI-D) and see if the issue continues.

There are many things that can cause this problem.

1)Have you recently installed new drivers for your graphics cards? If have then try to uninstall it and install an older version of the drivers. If you haven't installed new drivers, then try that.

2) Also try what the other post said, switch the between the DV and VGA cable.

3) Try checking to see if the cable is in properly into the monitor, and into your graphics card.

4) Maybe the monitor is just defective and you have to exchange it.

Had it happen a few times, be sure the power down mode is not set to a specific time like 15 minutes or it can freeze DVD playback in Power DVD and cause other trouble in some applications. Set it to Screen Saver> Monitor Power> Never.

no i havnt found a solution yet. :S i was thinking it was my video card maybe because i have no clue what else could be causing it

It only happens when I'm connected via DVI, not over VGA. I tested the computer with several other DVI monitors at the same resolution and refresh rate and had no problem. This is unacceptable, so I've arranged to send back the display for an exchange from Dell. I'll let you know if this solves the problem. Message Edited by PSURand on 01-21-200712:05 AM

UPDATE: I just tried the monitor on my friend's notebook which has a different video card, also connected via DVI...SAME PROBLEM EXACTLY.

well i found a solution now, it was my video card, i changed it with a better one and now its fine :)

What kind of video card did you have and what kind of video card did you switch to? I've seen the problem happen with two notebooks, one of which had a nVidia Go5200 with 64 MB of VRAM and the other with an ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 with 64 MB of VRAM. Both notebooks have been used extensively over DVI with other flat panel displays of the same resolution as the one we're having problems with.

I received the replacement E207WFP today from Dell and connected it over DVI and it appears to be working perfectly, no problems at all... so it looks the first one was merely a defective unit. Thank you Dell for making things right by sending a new display!
