DVI vs VGA - Which should I use?

I just purchased an Inspiron 530 witha 19" 198WFP Monitor.  The monitor came with both a VGA & DVI cable and the only instructions were not to use BOTH to connect to the computer.  What is the advantage of using one over the other?

Thanks for your help.

DVI is a digital interface. That means that since LCD pannels are digital peripherals, the video signal is sended digitally "pure" from your computer to the monitor.

VGA is an analog interface. That means that to use it on a digital peripheral like a LCD, it must be converted and the signal can lose some quality on the process.

DVI is always recomended to avoid posible quality problems related to the analog nature of the VGA signal.
