Fuxxy and shadowy text is common pobrlem in this monitor? Is there any solution. I try Frequncy, DPI and other setting. It did not improve the qulity. What is the return policy if you not satisfy with monitor quality. Responce will be greatly appreciated.

Do you have the Clear Type on ?

Do you have this monitor connected with the DVI or just analog cable.....This might make a difference.  Tell us about the video card as well

Hi:

I have monitor connected with analog (1x15-Pin D-Sub) cable which is provided from Dell. I move around the speaker and other devices away from moinotr just to avoide any noise issue. Monitor factory setting are as bellow:

1024x768 Rsolution, 96 DPI setting, 60 HZ.

I have Intell(R) 82865G Graphic Controller and Integrated Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 video card. If you are refering LCD protection Clear Plastic which came in Packaging than I have removed it. Right now I do not have any thing on LCD monitor. Also I thnik this monitor does not support Digital cable connection.

Thank You

Clear Type is what your windows xp uses to clear up the jaggies.  Right click an empty space on your monitor, Click Properties in the next box, Click Appearance on top in the next box that shows ( Display Properties ), Click Effects near the bottom right, now look for "  Use the following method to smooth the edges of screen fonts "  Its will either say Standard or Clear Type. If it says Standard than click the down arrow and click on Clear Type.  Than click on OK...Now you have clear type on.

Thanks a lot. I changed the edge of screen fonts to clear type and text quality did improve little. Is there anything else I can try to get the text quality similar to CRT type monitor? Is that true that we can never able to get the text quality better than CRT monitor due to technological limitation?

My text is pretty darn good on my 17 inch ( 1703 FP ) monitor.  I do have a better graphic's card and better video driver as well.  Don't really know if you want to improve on the integrated graphic's or not.  I use a DVI ( Digital Cable ) connection, is better than the analog connections that you are using.  I heard just a day or so ago from another member that had problems, but when he switched to DVI and a better graphic's card, the picture and text improved alot.    If someone else know's more than I that can assist further, please weigh in with the poster.

Just found this out.  Your monitor is only analog and not both analog and DVI.  So thats that.  You cannot get the better DVI connection unless you buy another monitor with both connector's.  Sorry.  Heard this on another post and the  E173FP monitor

Dim 4400 ( June 2002 )
2.6 ghz (upgrade from 1.7 ghz)
768 MB 2100 DDR Memory
Gainward Ti 4200 128 MB Nvidia
XP Home plus SP-2
17 inch Dell LCD monitor (1703 FP)
48 X CDRW

I think your problem may be in your screen resolution.  The native resolution of that monitor is probably 1280x1024, anything outside of that (like your 1024x768) will make things (especially text) look terrible.  I found that out when I bought a 17" LCD.  One problem for me was the native resolution (1280x1024) was too small for web pages and Word Documents (but looked great) and 1024x768 looked bad.  Try changing the resolution and see if it helps

The refresh rate is not the issue (usually set to 60 hz) it's the resolution, for that monitot I am quite sure it should be 1280 x 1024.  That is the native resolution, all LCDs look significantly better when run at their native resolution

Go into Display Properties, click on Settings, than click Advanced and set the DPI from 96 to 120 and the type will be larger for you.  Any other questions ?
