e198wfp Resolution
I recently bought a e198wfp monitor to replace an slightly older 15". I'm having the same problem a lot of people are with lower resolution. My computer is Dell Dimension E310 with original video card being 128 MB Intel (R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset. How do I improve the image quality? Thanks.

Bdlc2k,
Are you saying the video card will not allow you to set the original Resolution?

He means take a digital photo of the screen showing the issue, and upload it to that site. Then post a link to the photo here.
It would also help if you state what resolution you are using, and describe the problem.

[Posted by Bdlc2k:I have the setting at 1440X900 at 60 Hz which is the monitor's optimal setting.]
Althought it is true that the 60Hz setting is native to this monitor, I noticed that running it on our XPpro ASUS P5PE LGA775 Onboard Intel Extreme2 Graphics (VGA) system that the monitor is MUCH clearer at 75Hz. It is a very obvious difference and not just a matter of user preference or individual observation. 60Hz is blurry, and 75Hz is crystal clear. I can't explain it. All I know is that on that particular system it is necessary to run it at 75Hz.
On my newer XP pro Gigabyte GA-G31M Core2 E6750 with NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS (DVI) both 60Hz and 75Hz are equally clear.
As a vision professional, clarity is tantamount to my work. I would always test the 75Hz setting just to ensure you're getting the very best image.

Well...at least we gave it a shot.
You know, I'm not delighted with the image quality of the monitor in general. Flat panels all seem to be marginal in their quality. There is nothing like a nice CRT as far as text is concerned. For video and maybe gaming, I'm sure the flat panels have their place.
I've noticed that it is critical that my line of sight be perpendicular to the monitor to insure the best overall image quality. One reason I don't like the 22+ inch designs is that there is too much color and image distortion at the far periphery. It could really mess up image editing if I was a professional photographer. Vertical tilt also impacts image quality greatly. I just wish the monitor manufacturers would consider mainstreaming quality instead of disposability.
Good luck with your issues. I've tried no fewer than 8 monitors trying to find one that I can live with, sometimes buying the same model a few times. I liked the HP1907 and this Dell e198wfp. I'm thinking about one of the new Acers now. They all vary widely within their production runs. I've also heard that many share the same manufacturing components and I wonder if every single one is cursed in the same way. Some are crooked, some are dark/light blotchy, some are dead pixelled to death, many have warped cases or stands that are wobbly or unstable. It's basically a matter of selecting the lesser of the evils. I feel REALLY sorry for those that have to crunch text all day long. They'll be complaining about their vision for eternity.
