E207WFP Wii Problem

Hi there. I have my Dell E207WFP monitor hooked up to my Dell Dimension 9200 and my Nintendo Wii. My graphics card is a GeForce 7900 GS.

When I turn on the monitor, the main display is the PC. If I then press the button on the monitor to switch to 1: Analog Input, it then displays the Wii.

Everything works fine on the PC display, which runs at 1680x1050. There are no problems at all with this.

I have been having some problems with the Wii display which have happened since I set the Wii up, but I have been ignoring them. I shall go into this problem below. However, I have now encoutered one new problem which makes me unable to play The Simpsons Game on my Wii.

The first problem that has been happening ever since I set the monitor up with the Wii is that whenever a big flash or quick, fast scene change (it seems to be this, but I cannot be 100% sure) happens the screen goes black for a second, comes up with 1: Analog Input and then goes back to normal. It does not do this for every game. It does get in the way, but it isn't that problematic.

My second problem is that with The Simpsons Game on the Wii. I got the game yesterday. When I put it in my Wii and start the game up, it plays fine. However, there is a rectangular black box in the middle with the words: '1: Analog Input  Cannot Display This Video Mode   Optimum Resolution 1680x1050 60Hz'. The message stays there, and doesn't go away. I can play the game, move about and so on, but this message just remains on the screen. This does not happen on any of my other many Wii games. There is a picture of this message below (the game is running, I have just pressed the HOME button on my Wii remote).

I will now explain how I have my computer, Wii and monitor all setup. I have a YPbPr to RGBHV VGA Box 2:1 Video Switch VGA box. On the PC VGA Input side, I have a cable that goes in the back of my PC. On the VGA Output side, I have a cable that goes into the back of my monitor. In the middle I have the red/green/blue plugs that then go into my Wii. Below are some pictures, annotated to show what they are.

The VGA box, with all the plugs going into it.

The PC VGA Input. (white and blue goes into the VGA Box, white alone goes into back of monitor)

Please can someone help me fix my two problems? To summarize, the problems are:

  • 1 second black screen with Analog Input message displaying briefly on quick flashing.
  • The Simpsons Game for Wii displaying the resolution message constantly.

After looking at our documents for our Wii titles, we would like to let you know that our Wii titles run on a scale of 4:3 and a resolution of 480p. This includes your The Simpsons Game disc as well."

From EA.

I set my Wii settings to this, but the message is still coming up.

The only thing leftI think is to set your Wii output to 4:3 as opposed to 16:9 and if that doesn't work, a different converter box. good luck

I've set it to 4:3, but the problem still continues.

Is buying a new VGA box really the only last option...?

Bump! I'm not keen on the idea on buying a new VGA Box, surely there is another way?!

Bumping doesn't help with the way this forum is set up.

Have you tried another interface?  Maybe you need to move up to one of those combination tv/monitor units

Sorry, but I'm looking to stick with my current setup and play as I am.

If it helps, I discovered that Virtual Console titles (old Nintendo games) also display the black box in the middle.
