Fairly happy with 2007WFP...
I just got a 2007WFP with an E510 system purchase. Overall, I'm happy with the monitor. It's version A02 and has a manufacture date of June 2006. I'm using the DVI connection. There aren't any yellow areas. No dead pixels. No banding. Also, there don't seem to be any backlight problems. Maybe I got lucky! However, I do have a few problems/concerns/comments:
-First problem is with Dell: I got the main computer and extras super quick. But the monitor hadn't arrived after awhile, so I contacted Dell. Turns out the 2007WFP was either lost in shipping or never shipped at all...I never was fully clear. I had the main system for 2 weeks before I got the monitor.
-There is a reddish cast around some letters (usually small font size). This is my first LCD display and I'm guessing this is due to the design?
-Reading text was straining my eyes, then I found out about ClearType. That has helped a lot, but I still have the reddish issue.
-The monitor is really bright. I turn the brightness setting down to about 10 when surfing the web and that seems to help...especially on sites with white backgrounds like this one.
-This monitor is replacing an old P780 CRT monitor. Overall, I think CRT provides a better picture. I viewed DVDs with the P780 and it just has a lot cleaner image. Further, text is displayed perfectly on the P780. I don't think this is the fault of the 2007WFP, but rather with LCD technology as a whole. I think I just prefer CRT. But I'm trying to move forward with the technologies since it's getting hard to find larger CRT monitors.

Well, sorry...Duh...
How about 'alignment' on the 'readability' test? Does it do it on all text all of the time? That is what I meant, that it could be a bad alignment of the pixels thus causing the shadow. Otherwise, software - graphics card & drivers. You may have mentioned it but have you enabled 'clear type' in your XP settings? You do run XP don't you?
To sum up - a quality monitor should not do this...
As for your comparisons with crt s vs lcd s, I have had sony (g versions) 17" 19" & 21" crt s which were very good but I prefer the lcd s due to geometry, color calibration, easier on my eyes etc.. Crt s have the advantage of not having problems changing resolutions versus 'native' res. on lcd s. I do alot of work with design & use adobe creative suite cs2 (as well as games) & I can not abide bad monitors.

The red ghosting only appears around certain characters. It shows up in this window as I'm composing this post, however, the "Tip: Limit your subject line...." above doesn't have the red ghosting. Strange. It only seems to do it with certain fonts and sizes.
Yes, I am using Cleartype.
Any other thoughts?
