G3223Q, yellow tint, bright spot

Received the monitor a couple of days ago. Same issues as described in other posts - yellowish tint (I had two 27 in chUltraSharp, I replaced one with the G3223Q, so it is being compared to the U2720QE next to it), blacking out during gaming (seems like G-Sync is the culprit). Also, there appears to be a screen defect (not quite a dead pixel but a larger piece of excessively bright spot visible in white background). Also, not nearly as bright as the U2720QE. Called customer service, factory reset helped a bit with the yellow tint, not the rest. The monitor has the latest firmware, M3T103, runs off RTX4090 Strix with the latest Nvidia driver, through a DisplayPort connection (cable from the G3223Q box). Dell is sending me a replacement screen (remarkably responsive customer service!), hopefully a better one. Other than that, I really want to like this screen :). I have had Dell monitors at both work and at home for as long as I can remember.

Did you test the provided HDMI cable from the G3223Q HDMI out ports 1 and 2 to the RTX 4090 HDMI in port to see if the yellow tint and bright spot appear?

Did the yellow tint and bright spot appear during BID (Built-in diagnostics) (Page 61 in the online G3223Q User's Guide) colored full screens?

Hi Chris, thank you for the quick response! No, I didn’t test the HDMI connection and the customer service rep didn’t ask me to. I hope it wasn’t something as silly as this… Will do it later.

Both the yellow tint and the bright spot appear during the self-diagnostic colored full screens (again, have tested only the DP port).

I will record the data as you suggested - are you asking me to send it to you?

Also, one correction to my original post - my other monitor is U2720QM, not U2720QE.

On the G-Sync issue, I do see that the G3220Q is listed as “not validated as G-SYNC compatible” in the Nvidia control panel despite the Nvidia G-SYNC logo at the base of the monitor. And when I have tried a different G-Sync monitor, when I plug it in, Nvidia control panel recognizes and a notification pops up alerting that I have plugged in G-SYNC monitor.

* Nope. I actually found all of the data.

The G3223Q is an AMD FreeSync Premium Pro monitor with only limited Nvidia G-Sync compatibility.

All you can do is open the G3223Q Menu- Game. Make sure AMD FreeSync Premium Pro is set to On. Exit the Menu. Then open the Nvidia Control Panel- Displays- Setup G-SYNC and see what it says.

Ok, just checked - AMD FreeSync Premium Pro is set to On.

Will post again after I have tested the HDMI connection and the replacement monitor.

It is a bit ironic that there is this Nvidia G-SYNC logo glued to the base of the G3223Q and not an AMD FreeSync one ... :)

On HDMI, we are only checking for yellow tint and white spots.

Maybe I am missing it but I only see the Dell logo on the Sales page pictures and video.

Also when using DP cable, int he Nvidia Control Panel was there any reference to turning "Adaptive Sync" on?

By the way, to you know if the G3220Q is meant to be less bright than the U2720QM (as in, noticeably less bright)? The UltraSharp appears, well, sharper...

The actual base on the G3220Q has the Nvidia G-SYNC logo. I agree, it is not visible on the sales pictures  (yet, it is there, I am looking at it right now - see the attached photo).

Also look at what I see in the control panel (second photo). The only thing I have seen referenced is to set monitor technology to "G-SYNC Compatible" in the Manage 3D Settings section of the Nvidia control panel.

The Brightness will differ based on the manufacturer and panel.

G3220Q
Manufacturer = AU Optronics
Panel = Fast IPS

U2720QM
Manufacturer = LG Display
Panel = IPS

* Open the NCP (Nvidia Control Panel)
* Open 3D Settings
* Click Global Settings tab
* Scroll down and double click Monitor Technology
* Choose G-SYNC Compatible (If able to do this?)

* Go to Displays
* Click Setup G-SYNC
* Click the G3220Q
* Does it still state, "Selected Display is not validated as G-SYNC Compatible"

Yes, I already had theses setting - see my previous post. Still says "Selected Display is not validated as G-SYNC Compatible"

OK. I guess we will have to await the arrival of the replacement to see if it has same issues or not.

@DELL-Chris M

The replacement arrived and, unfortunately, except for the bright spot (I ran the full color diagnostics and didn't see any), the rest of the issues exist. Yellow tint, G-SYNC not compatible in NCP, screen blacking out during game play. I did a factory reset as well.

And, for the record, the shortest HDMI cable is supplied with the monitor, it barely reaches the GPU. I tested both the DP and the HDMI connections. I will test a bit more but can't see how things get better.

If you have any ideas, I will be happy to try. Thank you for all your help, Chris!

Two G3223Q with same complaint, yellow tint, DP no G-Sync points to =
* Driver incompatibly with the Nvidia driver. Test older Nvidia drivers

Any idea on your end what driver might work? There are a ton of them... It would be nice if Dell has a database with drivers tested.

That brings up a whole other dynamic. We only test/validate on our OEM (original equipment manufacturer) video card drivers tailored to our OEM video cards.

You have the retail RTX 4090, so you have to test their retail drivers.
