Has anyone here tried this "fix" for their 2005FPW's backlighting problem?
Hi all,
I have been actively browsing this forum and about 3 others about the 2005FPW and everyones' opinion of it. I am disappointed that I have read so many backlighting problems with them. This has unfortuately, temporarily halted my purchase of it until something is definitely figured out. Anyhow, on to the topic...
In one of the other forums I have been browsing, one guy posted a "fix" to the backlighting leakage, and a few others tried it with equal success. I was wondering if anyone else has, or if anyone is willing to do this with their monitor that is scheduled to go back to Dell and post before/after pics? Here is a copy and paste:

When I received my 2005FPW, it had backlight bleeding that was just as bad as or worse than any of the pictures I've seen posted in this thread. Since I was getting it replaced anyway, I figured I couldn't mess it up any more and decided to see if I could do anything about it. I took a paper towel and started pressing various areas of the screen to see what effect it had. What I found was that firmly pressing on an area with backlight bleeding and dragging toward the center of the screen got rid of the bleeding. It takes some patience and finesse, but it does work.
My screen lighting is now uniform and looks exactly like a quality LCD should. It still has two stuck pixels so I don't feel too stupid about getting the replacement anyway, but if you have a screen that's perfect except for the backlighting, you could be about five minutes away from perfection.
Hope this helps some people out...

Although I feel Dell needs to correct this from the factory with a new revision, who knows how long that may take and if they are actively doing something right now or not. So if Jesse replies back (hopefully today or early this week) saying that there's nothing in the works yet, then I may wait another few weeks and hope to get a Dec. 04 or possibly even a Jan 05 one and possibly do this above if neccessary.
Thanks,
Brian

I can't comment yet, my 2005 is still in delivery. But for a huge amount of talk, pics, anything about the 2005fpw, check out this forum thread at hardforum.com:

There are 31 pages. I wouldn't advise going to the first page as most posts will be the worst experiences from the early builds back in November. While it seems some of the new December builds have less of a backlight problem than in the past, but still there.
Also, that 25% off Dellf coupon expires on the 5th. Though, I swear my early one said the 15th, maybe the recent coupons changed to the 5th.
This is a good time to order, with the screen now at $749, then the 25% off, then the $45 off, you get a pretty good deal.
I ordered mine with that $150 off $600 Dell Amex coupon, which I paid $50 to get. So my total was with the 25% off, $150 off, free shipping came to $449, then tax moved it to $482, then the $50 I had spent for the coupon means all in all it came to $532. But right now I'm working on seeing if they will price match the price drop from $799 to the $749, which hopefully I'd get $50 credited back, but that's still iffy, they just might offer a $75 coupon that can be used within 6 months.
