LCD monitor

I would like to replace my current monitor with a Dell.  They (Dell) list lcd monito4rs for digital, analog and digital/analog.

Whant is the difference (in non-technical language) between these?

I use my PC for general web purposes and also extensively for CAD drawing.

Will I be able to plug-and-play a new monitor?

Thanks,

Yes and no. The connections will depend on your video card. If it has VGA only, you will be able to connect to any of the LCD's that have analog via VGA input. If you have DVI (digital) output on your video card then you can connect via the digital (DVI) input. You did not say what kind of video card you have. If your video card only has VGA, be sure and get an LCD with both VGA (analog) and DVI (digital) inputs so you can later upgrade your video card or PC without worring about the monitor input.

DVI is digital and has no signal loss like VGA (analog).
DVI is what you want; it's looks better and sharper than VGA.
Video card must have DVI out.

If your Operating System supports plug n'play, then yes.

DVI has a white output plug on the video card
VGA has a blue output on the video card
