M993 Refresh-Rate, Fuzzy Picture
I have a Dimension 8400 with a Dell M993 19-in CRT monitor running on the Radeon PCI Express X800 XT graphics card.
I had read the suggested resolution and refresh-rate for the monitor was 1280x1024 pixels @ 75hz. I tried this setting, and the monitor displayed a shrinking or compressed image on the left and right sides of the screen (i.e. icons appear smaller on the left and right sides of the screen). The center of the screen was also fuzzy. I adjusted the refresh rate to 60hz, and that solved the fuzziness, however the sides of the screen still appeared to be shrinking. Although, now at 60hz, the fuzzy center is reappearing. I have also tried lower resolutions and the fuzziness goes away, but not the shrinking sides.
I have reinstalled display drivers and checked for any cord problems, and it still occurs. However, when I plugged in my old SONY Multiscan G220 CRT to my computer, it had no display problems on all the available settings.
So, is there something I can do with the monitor? Or do I have to return it and get another one? Although I'm worried that if I get a replacement this might just happen again...
Otherwise, the systems runs like a dream. DOOM 3 looks and plays very well on it.

Yes sounds like the monitor is defective and needs replacement. If the defective monitor is under 30 days old you can send it back & should expect a new monitor in return. If it's over 30 days old you will get a refurbished one back, and for the life of me I have no idea what that means when Dell uses this word. Expect something between nice and fairly new to something dirty and years old.
Did you try looking at it in safe mode. I know that when done this way you will only be using the standard VGA drivers etc and with only the basic start -up items needed. but at least this way if the monitor is ok what you see shouldn't be fuzzy or out of shape. If it looks good you may want to check else where for you problem.
