Method for updating 2007 firmware

Thanks for the update Chris, this is welcome news.

For those of us already in possession of a 2007 in need of a firmware update (mine will be delivered 5.26), what will be the course of action for seeing this happen?

Thank you for your time.

Yes I am curious about the method as well.  I pray that it will be downloadable and do it yourself, but alas I realy doubt it.

So this fix fixes desktop mode only?  This is my first LCD and I realy am not familiar with the modes.  Is there a reason the other 2 modes are not being fixed?  Was the problem evident in the other two modes?  Will there be any issues keeping the monitor in desktop modes at all times?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, but like I said this is my first LCD.

That is a great thing to hear, despite only having my monitor for two days. I hope it something than can be easily downloaded and fixed.

Good question, this is the only thing keeping me from hitting the "buy" button.

ahah Bytess, it's pretty much the same over here. The cart is saved and I'm just waiting to be sure it's already being implemented...

Just to be sure everyone understand. You CAN'T flash the firmware yourself. You CAN'T flash it using the VGA or DVI port. You CAN'T flash it using the usb (it's simply a hub, nothing that communicate with the monitor itself !)

So Dell have to flash it for you. Just wait a bit and futures panel will have the fix. but if you order this week, I would be really surprised if you would have a fixed one... They found a fix, that doesnt mean every production line have it in the next hour !

Be patient...

Impossible is different from improbable. It isn't likely that you can do a monitor firmware update yourself, but it could happen if the monitor was wired up to USB to allow it, or a mechanism was devised to send the update over the DVI connection.

Neither of these are likely, but unless you've taken apart the monitor (and have a degree in electrical engineering), you don't know it is impossible.

This "downloadable" idea must stop. It's totally impossible, technically. Like Chris already stated, it'll have to be done by Dell at a factory or hub.

All,

Don't worry about the 21 day policy. For this issue, there will be an extended grace period (don't ask, I don't know the specifics) from the time you receive the firmware flashed monitor.

well I ordered the monitor. I have confidence in dell from the various issues Ive had in the past with some of thier hardware. RMAing isnt an issue in the end if the product is vastly superior to others out on the market, which without the known issues this monitor is.

Frankly from the  timely responses from the forum moderator swayed my decision to go ahead and buy the monitor :O)

Im the third person in my workgroup now to go through many models and finally decide on this one as well, even with then know issues.

perhaps, im just clinically crazy......

I'm hoping that perhaps the new firmware could allow flashing by download (USB or DVI).  That way, if the current fix causes other problems (I hope not!) and another fix is needed, then we can all just flash it without sending these monitors back to Dell again.

I don't even know if anyone knows what the different modes actually do different, other than maybe allowing 3 different "profiles" of OSD settings.

Are the monitors shipping out with the updated firmware now or no?

Is anyone else underwhelmed by this fix?

I mean, I don't want to be a killjoy, but it fixes the banding in Desktop mode, and that's it? What about the flicker or the blurry text? Or the banding in Gaming or Multimedia mode?

ChrisM- Is there any way to immediatly halt shipping of monitors in-transit to us, and have them returned to the factory? It's alot easier for a UPS/FedEX truck in the same town it shipped from to change course. Or could you have them routed to you for the fix?

If you say the banding dissapears with this fix, then I have no reason to doubt it right now, but the flicker is just about as huge a problem =/
