MKS14 issues on Inspiron

I've been trying to connect to my new MKS14 monitor stand/docking station, and not making much progress.  When I connect the USB 3.0 cable (to a USB 3.0 port) the only thing that happens is my mouse is disabled.

When I plug the USB 3.0 cable in, the system notices that I connected a device.  The Installing Device Software box says it is trying to install devices for the following components, but each fails with the message "Device Unplugged": Dell USB 3.0 Dock, Dell USB Audio, Dell Gigabit Ethernet.

The MKS14 is powered on :-) and I double-checked cable connections.

System and drivers:

  • Inspiron N7110
  • DisplayLink Core Software 7.7.59032.0
  • DisplayLink Graphics 7.7.59032.0
  • Renesas USB 3.0 Host controller V 2.1.39.0
  • Dell USB Graphic Software 7.7.58012.0
  • Dell USB 3.0 Dock, Dell USB Audit, and Dell Gigabit Ethernet don't show up in my installed programs list.

Here's what I have done so far (rebooted after every driver install attempt):

1) The CD that came in the package was scratched, so I downloaded the MKS14 driver from the Dell site.

2) Tried installing the driver, got a message that my Renesas USB 3.0 host controller was an old incompatible version.

3) Installed the latest Renesas driver for Inspiron from the Dell site. (V2.0.34.0)

4) Tried installing Display Link drivers again, but still told that the Renesas was too old.  Followed the link provided in the error message to install the Renesas driver from the DisplayLink site.  V2.1.39.0

5) DisplayLink drivers now install without a compatibility error.

6) Powered on the MKS14 and connected the USB 3.0 cable.

7) Driver install message came up.  The system tray popped up a message - something like USB composite driver could not be started - I didn't record it exactly :-(.

8) No DisplayLink icon appeared in my system tray.  My mouse (plugged into my laptop USB port) stopped responding.  Nothing else seemed to happen.

9) Tried various permutations of connecting the MKS14 before and after a restart, plugging my mouse into the laptop or the MKS14 before and after restart - same effect as above.

10) Installed the latest DisplayLink drivers from the DisplayLink site (7.7.59032.0).  Tried the various restart permutations - still no good.

Any ideas?

It was nice to read your notes.

Last month I bought a new monitor and the dock stand MKS14.

They did not send me the power cord for the MKS14.

Could you please inform me the specifications for that power cord so as I can buy one?

Thank you in advance.

Yes, Chris, it should have been there, but it is not.

And I would like (I need) to buy a original one, but I do not know how many amps etc. etc. it has.

Thanks a lot

Roberto

I cannot find any part number for the power cord. If the MKS14 was purchased directly from Dell, it should have been in the box?

Without a part number for the cable, you cannot buy one. You must contact Dell Italy Customer Service and have them exchange the whole thing. You will need to provide to them the numbers off of the Dell invoice, (Order, Customer).
