Monitor keeps going into Auto-Detect Energy Save Mode

I have a Dell 22" flat screen monitor that has a mind of it's own and it is becoming annoying. The monitor keeps going into Auto-Detect Energy Save Mode and I cannot get it back to 'life' without a hard shutdown of the computer and turning it back on. I just replaced the video card, that isn't the problem. It is 15 months old. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

ok what I did so far:

unplugged the screen from dvi and net

pluged in another screen in the vga receptor (built in)

removed my nvidia geforce 8800GT card

reboot

unistalled screen drivers

now I see:

screen driver: standard vga adaptor

screen: E228wftp

shut down

unplug other screen

reinsert geforce card

plug in original screen.

reboot

it automatically installs geforce 8800gt software (and I can't cancell it)

still goes black after ten minutes and then with intervals of 1 sec.

any other suggestions?

What I had to do was  uninstall the software before removing the card, shut down,

unplug the puter and then the video card (I exchanged video cards) and then put the puter back together.

plug the puter back in.

I started up the computer (monitor will work, perhaps using the motherboard settings.

Used my video CD to reinstall the software\drivers.

You may have to go into the Devices and disable the motherboard video card settings if they are running the video card.

I didn't have to do that, mine finally started working ok.

Good luck!

Well,

I am completly baffeld

every few days I have been going at it for hours! no change

Today, I took the screen and plugged it in with a collegue (same screen but other pc/graphics card)
And what do you know? It immediatly started again, after one second: black screen while the screen is still on.

put his screen back and that still worked perfectly.

So the screen is up and not the software! Means everything I did until now was useless?

How can I reset the screen ?

hope someone can help!
