Monitor problems, need assistance with diagnostics

I have an old monitor, and it is beginning to have a yellowish tint.  Is it time for a new monitor?  How long might this one last as it's not a good time for a purchase.  I've tried to adjust brightness, contrast.  The color is coming in and out.

Monitors should last and generally do last for years. Check if your monitor has a degaussing switch or mode. If not, retire it.  Monitors are cheap for CRT's ($80 - $175) and not too terribly expensive for LCD's ($175 - $350).

Could be going bad, but check the cord first to make sure it is tight at both ends and then try a new cord before getting another monitor.

How old is 'old' exactly?
