Monitor Problems

I accidentally switched my computer's (Inspiron 660 running W7 w?i5 processor) resolution and I got a scrolling message across my monitor (Samsung SyncMaster P2350) that states "NOT OPTIMUM MODE, RECOMMENDED MODE 1920X1080 60 HZ ANALOG. The problem is that I cannot get past the screen (black) with the rolling message and change the resolution. I've tried cold start, reboots, and nothing seems to work. I only have the one monitor at this point. Any ideas?

Hi Colonel1953,

You can try the following steps:

  • Shut the computer down
  • Power it up and keep tapping the F8 key
  • On advanced boot options screen, select Safe Mode and press enter to boot into Safe Mode.
  • Once in Safe Mode, uninstall the video drivers either through control panel or in device manager under display adapters
  • Restart the computer
Once the computer restarts, it should boot into windows normally and you should be able to see your screen. Re-installing the video drivers is recommended. If this does not help, here is another way to try and see it it works:
  • Shut the computer down
  • Power it up and keep tapping the F8 key
  • On advanced boot options screen, select Enable VGA mode and boot into windows.
  • Once booted, uninstall the video drivers from either through control panel or in device manager under display adapters.
  • Restart the computer
If it boots into windows normally, please re-install the video drivers. Restoring the monitor to default settings is also recommended.
Hope this helps.

Dell-Jyotpal F: Thank you so much. I'm up and running. This is my first time using the Community and it worked GREAT! I guess you CAN "teach an old dog new tricks"!
