Monitor Serial Number & Registration
Hi please can someone help?
I've today recieved my Dell Ultrasharp U2410 and been looking for details on how to register it, with no sucess.
The serial number etc... can only be found on the box and not on the monitor itself - strange - is this correct ?
When I attempt to register through Dell online it wont let me.
I purchased it through an online retailer in the UK called PCBuyit the invoice came from Taran Microsystems Ltd

Simonpa,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
The monitors bar code and serial number should be on back of the monitor itself on a sticker and not on the box.

Sorry there is no sticker on the back of the monitor, I double checked - is it possible I have been sold a refurb or something?
Is there a button sequence on the monitor itself that i can confirm the info from the box?
And how do I register it with Dell?
Thanks
Simon

If you bought a monitor alone (without a computer) you can't register it at retail registration. Monitors don't have service tags but use the computer's tag--if purchased with a computer. Your serial number and invoice should be saved for warranty service for a stand alone monitor. The serial number is on a sticker near the computer connections. You might have to carefully turn the unit face down to find it.
Monitors are usually replaced, not repaired. If the monitor doesn't work right out of the box you normally return it to the online retailer, not Dell. Check with the retailer for return policy and warranty terms.

Ah OK, Yes the monitor was bought alone from an online retailer, however other than the box there are no details on the back of the monitor whatsoever -I have checked several times now. If you want me to I can take a photo to demonstrate.
Is it possible this is a mistake or is there reason to suspect that refurb monitor are being sold as new through online retailers?
If you say the warranty is with the retailer and not Dell, what happens if the retailer goes into administration? I have never known any other Monitor manufactuer to not replace their products directly.
Dont get me wrong, the monitor is fantastic quality; however I am not comfortable knowing that a Dell as the Manufacturer don't handle warranties if not bougth directly from the online store.
I will contact the retailer for some clarity in this matter.
Thanks

Simon,
For U2410, the barcode and serial no. sticker is on a sliding card located at the card reader/usb hub on left side of monitor. You need to pull it out to in order to see the sticker. You could refer to online user guide for details: <ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
Personally, I like this new feature than the rest of monitor which I could easily read the serial no. right in front of me rather than have to peek the serial no at the back of monitor which often blocked by cables.
Thanks.

I found it ! many thanks for your help in locating it, although I would never have thought have looking there. Just a thought but maybe a paper addendum included with the monitor would help idenify this for future buyers.
With regards to the warranty/guarantee, a colleauge of yours said that when purchased from a retailer. the retailer deals with monitor replacement (not Dell) if there should be a problem within the 3year period. Is this correct and what if the retailer goes into administration before the warranty/guarantee expires?.
Many thanks for your assistance.
