Monitor sound has stopped working
I have a Dell S2414H monitor that I got from amazon. I use it with my PS3 and Mac and it had been working fine for months, maybe over a year now. Recently the speakers stopped working but the audio still worked if you plugged in headphones - don't know why this is. A few days after that, the sound stopped working there too.
I've looked at everything I can think of. I checked to make sure both my PS3 and Mac were set to output audio through HDMI, made sure the monitor was taking audio in from the HDMI cable, wiggled the cable around, tried a different cable, reset the monitor to factory settings and I followed the User Guide instructions to turn off the monitor, unplug the monitor power cord, replug it, and then turn on the monitor. All of this to no avail. I understand the monitor isn't validated by Dell to work with the PS3/Mac so I tried it with a PC laptop too, making sure the audio was set to output to HDMI. Nothing.
While it was connected to my mac, I opened the Audio MIDI Setup application and it read "0 in/ 2 out" on the HDMI tab, which leads me to believe the monitor is not accepting audio input. I would be open to anything if it means I can fix this without having to pay out more than £20. I'd be fine opening it up and fixing the internals if I need to, I just want to play some GTA.

Do you mean the S2415H? Was the monitor purchased directly from Dell or some reseller? And when? What is the 20 digit alpha-numeric monitor serial number and A0x revision? We do not disassemble monitors so do not have documentation on how to do this. We simply exchange them if still under the purchased warranty period. When the power cable was unplugged from the rear of the monitor, did you press and hold the power button for 15 seconds?

Yes sorry, mistyped. It was purchased, not sure if that means amazon is reselling it or not. I can't remember exactly when, it was 6 months to a year ago. Serial No: CN-07JK8G-74261-62F-1P9L-A01. At least that's what was on the back of the monitor, there are 23 characters there so I'm assuming the A01 at the end is the A0X revision you were asking for. It never said to hold the button on the manual so I didn't but I've tried it now - the button isn't one that can be pressed, so I just held my finger on it and the sound still isn't working.

The Dell 3 year warranty ends on February 15, 2019. Get it exchanged.

Hi There,
I have exactly the same issue as Twyzan - suddenly. The sound has stopped working on my Dell SE2716H monitor. The sound has always worked perfectly until now and it seems peculiar that myself and the OP have suddenly encountered this problem. What is also peculiar is that if I attempt to test the sound using the standard Windows Playback Devices utility, it seems to hang when testing the monitor sound but works fine on my headset (which is connected via USB).
My monitor is about the same age as Twyzan's - it would have been bought around January/February 2016.
Note that yesterday I installed the latest Windows update so I am suspicious that it is something in the update that has caused this - not the speakers in the monitor.
