P2317H, P2417H backlight regulation

Question

Hi. Could you give me a trustworthy answer about these two monitors and what the method they are using for the backlight regulation? Is it PWM or sth else?    Thx

We do not use a hybrid combination of DCM (Direct Current Modulation) and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). I think you should actually go to a local store and look at the Dell monitors offered. They will be up and running so you can judge for yourself.

Thx Chris. I've bought P2417H, tested and just can confirm that the monitor doesn't use PWM at any brightness level, so it's PWM free!

thx mister, but I'm confused with Your answer and the assertion on the Dell's website that both of the monitors are using Direct Current what's the opposite of using notorious PWM and DC is the healthiest solution for sensitive eyes on backlight flickering like mine. I'm about to get a PWM free monitor like one of the two because I'm getting serious health problems using that technique (PWM). Here is what's written on the official Dell's web for the monitors:

There is some confusion here. I never stated that the monitors use DCM (Direct Current Modulation).

I stated PWM (Pulse Width Modulation).

If you see in the monitors User's Guide, LED edgelight system or LED light bar system it does use PWM dimming.

So when looking at the P2417H User's Guide, page 12 states = Backlight White LED edgelight system.

edgelight, bar system and direct LED determine the position of the lights behind the screen, not how the lights work. PWM and Direct current determine how the lights work, isn't so? There are many monitors tested for PWM by third companies (including Dell monitors) where almost all Dell's PWM free monitors have either edgelight or bar light (check out on TFT Central Flicker Free Database( http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/flicker_free_database.htm )). How do you explain that?

At the time of posting, we were correct in our data presented to you. I ran this by our Displays team. They said that our User's Guides information would be clarified. The P2317H/P2417H use DCM (Direct Current Modulation) dimming.

Ok, thx. One more question. Are the Monitors using the same method (DC) at all brightness levels like the monitor on the picture below? (For example, DC at higher brightness levels but (high frequency) PWM at lower ones).
