P2715Q, Windows re-sized after wake up

DDM Guide. My guess is the resolution 3840x2160 is causing the Nvidia driver to reset the windows. Back the resolution down to 2650x1440. Re-test coming out of sleep mode.

For testing, uninstall the Dell Display Manager software, restart the computer when done. Re-test coming out of sleep mode.

Put the LG 31MU97 in the place of the P2715Q. Change the 4096x2160 resolution to the P2715Q resolution 3840x2160. Re-test coming out of sleep mode.

Thanks for the quick reply Chris.  One of them, an LG 31MU97 was connected the same way and the other, a Samsung S27970D, was connected GTX 980 --> DP to DP cable --> monitor DP in.  The resolution of the LG monitor was 4096x2160 and the Samsung was 2650x1440.

I do not have the Dell Display Manager installed.  What is the purpose of that software?  Also, I no longer have the LG.  I replaced it with the P2715Q.

I am not convinced that the culprit is a defective monitor. But you could initiate a monitor exchange. Once the replacement arrives, test it. If the replacement monitor has the same issue, then the monitors are not at fault. Return the replacement monitor back to Dell. If the replacement monitor does NOT have the issue, return the first monitor back to Dell.

I wanted to let you know that I changed the connection between the computer and monitor to Computer GTX 980 DP out --> DP to DP cable --> monitor DP in and it produced the same result.  So, I contacted Dell last night to arrange a exchange.  My monitor is Rev 00.  Do you happen to know if there is a later revision?

I have not seen any other revisions.

I am having the same issue with 2 P2715q's. Coming out of sleep, all my windows go to the top left on the left placed monitor. My setup is different in that I have an AMD 7850 videocard. Not sure how to fix this, or somehow to tell the monitor to not go to sleep. Both are connected through displayport.

That is pretty much exactly what has happened, but it occurs on wakeup and not while sleeping: the display driver wakes the monitor up with a safe, low resolution and then switches to the native higher resolution.

If you use Dell Display Manager (DDM), and are comfortable editing the registry, it has an undocumented feature that can reduce, if not eliminate, the annoyance of having to manually rearrange your open windows: add the value "RestoreWindowLayout" to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EnTech\DDM and set it to 1 (dword).

(You'll need to have the latest version of DDM (b.1554) for this to work; hold down the Shift key while right-clicking on the DDM notification tray icon, and select "Check for new version" from the popup menu.)

In a nutshell, what this switch does is tell DDM to store your open window positions when the monitor powers down, and then to restore them when the monitor wakes up again. Its a workaround, rather than a fix, and it doesn't always work, but it does help.

Thanks for the reply. It might have been something sorted out by the graphic card manufacturers. After updating to the latest AMD Catalyst drivers (14.12), the problem went away. Windows are not automatically resizing to a smaller resolution at wake.
