P2720DC USB Type-C as docking station, desktop
Hi All,
I'm using a Dell P2720DC monitor and up until lately I happily connected all my peripherals (mouse, keyboard, webcam) to the P2720DC USB ports, while using the P2720DC USB Type-C cable to plug to whatever laptop my household members where using at the moment : Lenovo Carbon X1 Gen7 or Dell Vostro 15" 7570.
This worked great, charged my laptops and allowed me to really use the P2720DC as a docking station.
Lately the Vostro laptop got replaced with a desktop (Powered by ASUS B550-wifi motherboard) and I'd like to keep using the docking station capability.
However, I cannot get the peripherals connected to the P2720DC to be recognized by the desktop. I've tried a USB-A to USB-C converter plug, multiple USB-A (3.2 and other) ports on the desktop but no avail. I am using the USB Type-C cable that was supplied with the monitor. A different USB Type-C cable (originally supplied as a charger cable for Pixel phone) did allow me to connect to the P2720DC and it's attached peripherals - but didn't work for the Lenovo laptop.
For Display, the desktop will be using DP anyway, I just want to be able to quickly unplug the USB Type-C cable from the desktop, plug it into the Lenovo Carbon laptop and keep on using the peripherals attached to the monitor.
What adapters or expansion cards would I need for that?

@elibaba Some USB-A to USB-C converters only support power and USB 2.0 data because they're meant to be used primarily for charging devices. Here is one that supports up to USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10 Gbps). Most USB-A ports don't support that, and I don't think the display does either, but if nothing else it's future proofing. If you need something longer, you should be able to find 6-foot cables that support USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps).
And just in case this is a potential source of confusion, with that cable the USB-C side has to go into the USB-C input on the bottom of the display. You can't use a USB-A port on the display side to connect the host device to the display.
